Just curious...

As much as we all would like to spend all of our time camping, many of us I am sure have other passions as well.

So I thought I would throw this out there...

What do you do for fun in your non-camping time.

Other than fishing and hunting, I am an avid woodworker.  I make furniture and smaller gift type items (this time of year especially).

I also do a bit of tai-chi and love to watch college football (Buckeyes and Tennessee) and Major League Baseball (Indians).

Thought this might become a lively thread.  Hope everyone is well and recovered from their turkey hangover.

How kind of you for not saying "And watching the Fighting Illini beat your Buckeyes!"

TroutBum,

I like college football myself and it looks as though my LSU Tigers will be playing your Tenn Vols in the SEC Championship game. Should be a good game. I was gonna try to go, but since we lost to Arkansas and are likely out of the hunt for the National Championship, the game for me has lost it's lustre.

I know you said not to include fishing, but I have lately gotten hooked on kayak fishing and I do that a lot even when not camping. I can put my kayak in the water just 10 minutes from the house. I also kayak on the many rivers and bayous here in Louisiana just to unwind and see God's creation from a different perspective. Viewing the world from the water is an entirely different experience than from land expecially when your not in a motorized boat moving at 50 mph.

I enjoy photography, and cooking as well as dining out with my wife. We are empty nesters now so we are like two kids again coming and going as we please going to all the newest restaurants and some of the great little hole in the walls that only the locals know about.

I own my own business and travel out of town from time to time and usually arrange my travels around times when my wife can travel with me, so we also sort of have a new hobby of traveling to new destinations and trying to spend time in what are new cities to us getting to know what we can about these places.

Anyway, I hope that answered your question.

My non-camping hobbies pretty much revolve around family. With a 5-month-old son in the house, he's pretty much my hobby! Between family time, work and church, there's not much left out of a week, especially after doing maintenance and cleaning around the house on Saturdays. There's always auto maintenance or house maintenance to do. And my wife wants us to do things together on the weekends because she is home all week with our son and likes to get out of the house.

Not much time for personal hobbies!

I never said not to include fishing, I just glossed over it in my case since my nickname and mentions that I am a Fly Fishing Guide for a living makes that one self evident  :)

I share your feelings about the joy of silently fishing as opposed to relying on a motor.  When my clients say things like "you have a great job" my usual response is that "I get to go to work every day in God's office".  I definately consider myself blessed.

I am not an LSU hater, I am originally from Cleveland OH, and the Bucks are my first love.  DW and I now live in Knoxville, just 3 miles from Neyland Stadium, and people down here bleed Orange.  The energy is contagious.  I was able to attend the S. Carolina and Southern Miss games this year.  Couple that with my Florida hating credentials and I do consider myself a Vols fan.  The only team I ever want to see beat them is OSU and my Knoxville friends say they will give me a pass once a decade whrn the two teams meet (we'll see what actually happens when this is a reality and not a hypothetical).

This weekends game should be interesting.  Tennessee can beat LSU if the team that played Georgia, Arkansas, and KY shows up.  If the team that played Vandy and 'Bama shows up we are dead.  Despite my Buckeye loyalty, I can admit that the SEC is the deepest conference top to bottom.

That's the same problem we have been having. When we played Virginia Tech and South Carolina we looked like we should be in the NFL and when we played Arkansas and KY we stunk up the field and lost. This has been such a crazy year for NCAA football, but it has really been interesting to watch. You never know who will come out on top. As they say, That's why they play the games.

When we do the nearby camping to just chill out I bring the burner along. Been burning about a yr and a half now.... what burner do you use?
