Quote from: cndlzrus:eyecrazy:   :yikes:   Yes I am a Blonde.... So I got a good excuse if I back the PUP into a tree!    :%   but that is just way to get a new PUP? According to my local dealer...

I have to say after reading all these post, it is very inspiring to go on my own with my kids and the dog... then the hubby can join after work, if he chooses to...  Sometimes after working all day, ya just don't feel like a 3 - 4 hour drive and setting up a PUP...

And Waverly, I know you are all in fun, but watch out on your next camping trip you may be surround by women and their PUPS...  Girly muscles  are prettier! :-()

Yes more women need to camp.... So get out there girls and show them its not just for men....
OMG....

I'm being threatened AGAIN :yikes:

The last time that happened, I was threatened with fire and half of So Cal burned down.

I can only imagine what this may lead to. I'm being threatened with camping women with girly muscles..........what a way to go :yikes:  :yikes:

I think I enjoy the solo aspect of the great getaways....I don't have to pack up and hit the road by a certain time to be home to "catch the game".  If I want to broil a steak for breakfast - or have pancakes for dinner - noone there to tell me I've got life reversed!  If I just feel like laying on the bunk and reading a book all day - no one telling me not to.

I do enjoy being able to do what I want to, when I want to - with no static!  Of course it's nice to share experiences, but part of my desire to 'get away' - is just that - some time to regroup!

Significant Other had never been camping - and I took him tent camping a few years back and he really enjoyed it.  Then my RA hit really hard and I couldn't do the packup, set up - and sleeping on the ground was miserable.  So, I bought the PUP (Fleetwood Niagara), towed it home, and drug him with me for our first camping trip - a visit to his daughter.  He loved it. And, we took two vehicles for one camping trip which worked out great - he was able to go help his buddy remodel his house and I wasn't stranded at the campground.  Then too, I would tow, set up and be all cozy and he could join me when he got off work, and he'd go from the campground to work and I'd break camp at my leisure.  He and I have since separated, but still speak.  He's in FL hoping I will come visit.  I camped last year in FL and he joined me for a week and loved it.

Up until I bought the PUP, I had little to no experience towing and/or backing into a space.  But, it wasn't difficult to learn, and it took some practice.  I used my local schools parking lot on a Sunday morning.  I read my owners manual and made a set up/take down list which really helped.  I also bought a "Couple-Mate" (V shaped fitting for the hitch which will guide the tongue over the ball).

Heck - if I can do it - anyone can!

Wavery - ever hear this?

"A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle!"

Men are amusing.  Nice for cuddling on a cold night. (but then, so is my dog, Fizzy)

But there isn't anything a man can do that I can't (except pee standing up!)

I grew up camping in a tent, and I love my PUP.  I've been a single mom for 15 yrs, and my son learned all his camping/ scouting skills from ME.  :tent: I started him camping with my church singles group when he wasn't even 2.  His dad wouldn't know a sheepshank from a square knot, or how to start a campfire without gasoline - much less without matches!

Many males are physically stronger than I am - and I'm not a small, petite woman. But not everything takes brute strength, and most often, I can figure out a way to compensate for the strength factor, when necessary.

My SO, Paul, loves that I'm more than capable of taking care of myself, (and him!)  and I appreciate that he likes to spoil and pamper me sometimes.  Paul had camped before - but he admits that he would not have trusted anyone else to talk him into an over night canoe trip on a river - except for me - as he had never been canoeing before.  He may be better at taking care of our vehicles - because cars are a lifetime hobby of his - but he readily defers to me when it came to rebuilding his water- damaged condo, as I know much more about construction.

Wavery - I know you're goading us females with your tongue-in-cheek humor - so I have a  :Z proposition for you -

Next time you're up here in the Midwest, lets have a trailer backing, campsite setup, camp skills contest - guys against gals - and let a girly-muscled, blonde, middle aged Girl Scout show you how it's done!

Deal? :p

ROFLMAO ~ I want a piece of this one!

I'll be the "... girly-muscled, brunette, middle aged Girl Scout"

Quote from: HersheyGirlI take the kids and go camping without DH most of the time.  There are many other women on the board that do the same thing.  Then there are others that have non-camping DH's, so what is a girl to do?  They go and camp with out him is what they do.  Girl camping trips are lots of fun.

A cup of tea to ya Lassie...I'm one of those gals...I have more fun without the husband...I am the one with the muscles and do all the set up, take down, he just gets in the way...when we have 2 cars, he comes after everything is set up and leaves while I am breaking down...I LIKE it that way...

Wavery, just what is your wifee's e-mail???? I'd like to show her an all new way to camp...

I do believe you've rendered him speechless -- no small feat!!!

Thanks to all of you who've chimed in.  I've traveled solo since starting this venture, first with a friend's Class C, then my own PUP, and now my own HTT.  Sure, guys are helpful when setting up/taking down sometimes, but then so is anyone who can speak coherently & has an extra set of hands.  I'm short, and putting the bunkends up on the HTT sometimes requires another set of hands, just because I need to climb a stepstool to get them latched.  But I found a telescoping pole that does just fine when there aren't extra hands available.  As far as the backing up part ... hitching is easy, with my little magnetized hitching poles (courtesy of CW).  Backing up is still a pain in the patutty, and I don't make any excuses.  I can do it, but if given the chance will always let someone else if they volunteer -- be they man or woman.  I just don't like doing it.

Again, it's not about brawn.  It's about figuring things out & doing them in a way that makes sens to us.

BTW, Wavery will NEVER meet you in the Midwest -- you all have way too many mosquitos!  Maybe you ought to come our way.  His wife, Carolyn, would dearly love to meet you -- as would I!

ScouterMom

Wavery must be taking the day off - I don't think anyone could actually render him speechless! LOL!

I'd Love to come out west - I've seen some other camper's photos of camping in the rockies, and I'd love to bring my PUP out to visit my sister - she lives in Las Vegas, NV - but with only 5 vacation days a year, it isn't likely to happen
:(

At least, not until I retire, and with my job and pay, that'll probably be ... never!

I generally save my few days off to add to holidays and have 'mini-vacations'.  It the only thing that keeps me sane!

I hate the mosquitoes here, too - but they LOVE me!  I get bit when no one else does, and I'm highly allergice to bug bites, too.  Still, they've never kept me from enjoying the outdoors!

Quote from: cndlzrusWhether you are single, married or in a relationship, do you go out camping with our any male help?  I am kicking the idea around of taking my kids out, when the hubby as to work..

Did it all the time during the 2006 season because of my hubby's work schedule. I would take the PUP & kid to the campground on Friday after work, and hubby would join us for the night (usually by 9pm). He would go back to town (20-30 minutes) for a Saturday afternoon shift, then join us again in the evening. We normally had Sunday without him having to work. 2007 season, ironically enough, he was working M-F and we went camping less!! But we did have a whole week camping in late August plus a few weekends here and there.

Azusateach, you have answered one of my question about being in a HTT and camping by yourself... I wonder how you would open those bed ends...They are heavy.   We would love to up grade to HTT, our 10 foot box is so small for the four of us...

What did happen to Waverly???? I hope he is camping because it snowing here in Michigan.  So our girly muscles is shoveling snow!

Azusateach

Brenda, it's not the weight on the HTT bunk-ends -- it's the height.  They're really not bad to push up, as long as you can reach high enough to latch them.  Again, it's not a matter of brawn -- it's the brains to figure out how to get the job done.  So, go shopping for a HTT & don't worry about a thing.  If a 5'2" squirt can do it solo, anyone can!

Michigan cold air will not be good for that Broncitis.  You think it hurts to breathe now, breathe that cold air in, its like having razors in your chest....

I would love to get out of this cold winter stuff and go camping!

But who put the whammy on Waverly?  Hopefully you have a nice nurse with girly muscles to take care of you! :S

I have the most wonderful "Girly muscles" in the world :sombraro:  to take care of me. She spoils me rotten and makes me great chicken soup.

Welconme back,Wavery!

See I knew you couldn't be rendered speechless - breathless maybe :p  - but not speechless!

I've been out, too, for almost 2 weeks with that nasty bronchitis/ sinus infection.  Got to the point last Wed where I couldn't breathe & my mom called 911 and had me taken to the hosp.  I don't have pnuemonia, but close. They loaded me up with monster antibiotics, steroids and breathing treatments and finally got my lungs open again. But that 'nasty cold air' actually feels good to me!  Of couse, it's getting ready to snow again today, so it's not all that cold and it's nice & fresh & humid.  Why do they keep hospitals so hot? I felt like I was being baked to death in there! After 36 hrs in that hot, dry hospital, I'm enjoying a bit of fresh air. ( But not too much!)
I've  missed more than a week of work. since we don't have sick days, I'll probably have to use my vacation time. Which will mean less camping time this summer.
I need a better job.

The ER nurses here said there's been alot of this going around all over - people start with what seems to be a cold, but quickly settles in your chest, often with a sinus infection, too.  then they either get fluid in the lungs, (pnumonia) or bronchial swelling - either way -you can't breathe. not fun.    I get these little spurts of energy - try to tackle the laundry or make something to eat - then I run out of air quick, and my ambition pops like a deflated balloon!

So if any of you are exposed to this bronchial thingy - eat properly, get loads of sleep, and STAY HEALTHY!  it's no fun and the Dr says it will be 6 weeks or so before I feel "normal' again.   (Just in time to spend a month or so  working on the camper and start camping?)

then, when we get all our wind back - maybe we'll have us a contest, huh Wavery?
