HI, just looking for some reviews of this campground in Granville, MA...anyone been there?  Thanks

Beer Belly

We've been going there for the past 12+ years, we use it as a base camp for the Big Eastern States Fair in September. It is just under new ownership, the new owners and the staff are friendly and helpful. We usually go with our friends and stay at the second pond site.....very roomy for 3 Pop Ups with a fire ring in the middle. The most challenging thing is getting up the mountain.....if you're coming from Rt.8...it starts off with a 13% grade for the first mile and a half with no running start....you make the turn and hit the hill. Our friends end up going thru the state park, they say it's easier to climb. The bathrooms could use some updating, but they said they are working on it (as of Sept. '07). The sites are somewhat wooded and a fair size, I don't think they have any sewer hook ups except for seasonals (who are also friendly).

I was looking into it for our annual family camping trip for the end of June...last year we had 52 people camping (we reserved a whole street equaling 10 sites)... 2 in pop ups, 1 5th wheel, and the rest in tents (except my parents who rented a cabin)...

its great to get other peoples 1st hand experiences...
how are their activities for the kids?  and are the ponds big enough for the kids/men to fish in?  any site recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide...

Beerbelly thanks for the pics, its great to "see" what sites look like as well as those who post the pics ;)

We were there once during the regular season, so I really can't be all that helpful on activities, we would take the kids and play baseball or horseshoes and go for walks.....I do remember thinking the pool could get crowded on a hot day if a lot of campers wanted to swim.....we did go on a haunted hayride, that was cool. The Ponds are small and I do recall seeing kids fishing....as far as what, or if anything was caught, I don't know. As far as sites, I've seen a whole bunch of campers group together in the Safari Field....not much privacy though....Gainter Field is also another possibility, not sure of hook ups and your buddy with the fiver would have to come in by making the first right after the camp store (not a routine direction...would reccomend someone walk ahead to make sure there is nobody coming the other way), otherwise it's a tight turn to get back there....second pond would be too tight for your group (IMO)...we use it with 3 Pop Ups and it's comfortable. Please note that this is Bear Country, had one walk right under my awning, so use the usual caution. Let me know what you decide, or if you have any other questions I might be able to answer.

Thanks again!  I have to wait till I get the family approval to book it for our reunion but at least I have more info to give.... as for it being Bear Country, not worried about that as we have one that makes a occas appearance raiding our bird feeders in the winter...also have a moose camping out behind us and several coyotes that keep spooking the neighbors horses....
