Repositioning thermostat...

The thermostat on my 2000 Palomino is down near the floor by the door...probably the coldest spot in the camper. That being the case, the furnace kicks on and runs all the time, especially when someone comes into the camper.

I'm curious, is it possible to relocate the thermostat without affecting the operation of the furnace, and if so, how about some suggested locations?

Thanks.

Welcome to PUT.  Yes you can relocate the thermostat.  I don't know the layout of your camper, but you can move it anywhere you want to. Just make sure that it will not be in the way of anything when the trailer is popped down.  You also might want to replace the current thermostat with a digital one.:)

hey a digital one.will that make it more accurate???

right now the one I have the trailer gets really cold before it comes on because it over shoots so high it suffocates us..

Mine is on the side of the galley unit, out of the furnace's air stream, waist level when I'm seated in the dinette. You will probably have to access the wiring from under the trailer to move it from one side to another.

You can buy a digital one to solve the "lag" problem, or adjust the one you have. If I were to go to the trouble of relocating, I'd buy a digital.

Yes the digital one should be more accurate.  You can also adjust the one you have so that there isn't such a large swing in temperatures. :)

The ideal spot, of course, would be half way between the ceiling and the floor. That's kinda hard to do on a PU. However, if you went to a digital, you could mount it on your (raise up) galley. Just be careful to shield it from water splashing.

really??  how would I do that?

besides asking Viking or Dk&4kids Dan to fix it for me

What you need to adjust, is the 'Anticipator'.  On our thermostat, you remove the cover and you will see a small lever or pointer on the center pivot point.
The instruction sheet I have states:  "Move the pointer counterclockwise to lengthen heating system cycles; move clockwise to shorten heating cycles.  Adjustments should not be greater than 1/2 marking at a time."  Ours had the same problem you have.  After a small adjustment, the heater works fine.
I hope this helps.
