I also like camping in the mountains.  I like to hear running water and to have big boulders and some wildlife in the campground.:)

OC Campers

I love mountain or forest camping.  I love camping among the trees.  Unfortunately, since our other hobby is riding dirt bikes we also camp a lot in the desert.  It has its own kind of beauty but I definately prefer trees to dirt.

The mountains are my definate favorite.  Here in SoCal we have lots of options and can camp year around. in the winter the beach is nice, obviously it's nice the rest of the year too but a lot more crowded. In the Spring and Fall the desert is nice. Then the mountains are awesome from Spring through Fall, though there are certainly hearty people who would go there even in the snow.

Coming from the Northwest, we are interested in dry.  We love the mountains, especially where there is good hiking, but some there is a lot to be said about the desert.  One of my more memorable experiences last summer was sitting outside at night with my granddaughter (3 yrs) at Craters of the Moon naming the stars after all her friends and relatives.  It made the heat of the day worth it.

Some of the spots in Utah are right up there with the best (Arches, Zion, and Bryce Canyon).

We're spoiled. Living on the Central Coast of California we can go up to the Big Sur coastline where we're camping in the mountains within walking distance of the beach. That's the best. Love Zion, too, though. It feels magical.

I love wooded sites, with some form of swimming nearby (generally a lake).  I used to love hiking, and some campgrounds I've been to have nature trails which have been nice for both myself and my dogs.

Guess I'm feeling my age more now, (not to mention overcoming a broken leg), so I am becomming more attracted to the RV parks and their amenities (pool, etc).  That could change if I ever get to walking normally again!

I'm kinda a nature buff, and would love to share the rustic areas with my grandbabies.

By my avatar you can see that I like beach camping.  But......, it's an incredible challenge to get a good beach campsite here in California.  On ReserveAmerica at 8:00 a.m. this morning, all prime beach front spots were gone within ONE minute for the month of August!

As a result of the beach reservation pressure I actually spend much more of my camping time trout fishing and sight seeing in the local mountains!!:-()  We also take a yearly trip to the High Sierras - it's chock full of trees, rocks, and wildlife.  :tent:

I guess that depends on your definition of "Prime". There are still sites available at Point Mugu. You just can't get any closer to the water than that  :-() .

I just remembered....there is one beach site that you you closer to the water.....I think the name is Ferara (???? or something like that). There you can have the waves break right on your camper  :p

One of the things that I really wanted to do when we got the pup was to find an isolated spot in the woods next to a river, stream or lake and just set up camp. I think there are still places like that around AZ and I intend to find them. What could be better than to sit drinking coffee watching the sunrise over a beautiful lake?

I like woodsy and mountainous places, although we have never camped on a mountain. We have camped at the foot of the Smokies, in the woods.

However, I would be willing to give beach camping a try. I like my air conditioning, so I don't know if desert camping would fit me. I do like to ride ATV's, but that doesn't get done much at all anymore. Around here, you have to drive at least an hour to find a legal place to ride.

I like the forest and DW likes the beach.  Last year we found a place that made us both happy - Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, CA.

Mountains for us.
Love the Tall Pines
and Alpine Lakes of Northern Arizona.

Dw and I prefer the mountains but almost anywhere we have been we have enjoyed.

Always seems that there is something different in any area that you visit.  Ocean, forest, desert, mountains all seem to have a different beauty of their own.  Each seems to reach out and say "I am the best".

I just feel very lucky that DW and I have had the opportunity to see many of the wonders that this country has to offer.

Even better is the amazing people we have met, camped with, kept in touch with, and have played some part in our camping lives.

On a river or lake shore, in the trees for us. The more isolated the better.
