Anyone ever heard of the barnd generator and its durability?

It's a clone of your basic Chinese genset. They are imported under about 15 brand names. Service/parts/warranty can be difficult depending on where you purchase it. As each importer is resposible for their own warranty.
Also they aren't as quiet as your Honda/Yamaha inverter gensets. A good one for NASCAR races and other venues where everyone has a genset running.

Here's my reply to you by email, but I'll paste it here, because it is good info for public consumption:

I cannot respond to its reliability. But even if it crapped out after 3 years, it might have been a decent investment. However, the Honda you will likely give to your kids when you are too old to use it.

Here are some other comparisons:

Honda EU2000i 59db, 46.3 pounds
Honda     3000i 58db, 134 pounds
PowerMax 4400 69db, 132 pounds
Yamaha EF2400iS 53-58db, 70 pounds

I may be remembering wrong, but I think 69 db is 10 TIMES louder than 59db, so it will be quite loud.
