One of the weekend trips I would like to take this year is to Philadelphia. I have never been (neither has our DS) and would love to see the historical sights (DH is a history buff as well). Does anyone have any recommendations? I have searched the net, but as another poster stated, looks can be deceiving.

So far this year we have a weekend planned in Charlottesville, VA at the KOA and a week at Frontier Town in Ocean City, MD. I really want to make the 2nd weekend trip to be in Philadelphia (get there on Friday afternoon, sight see on Saturday, and leave Sunday morning) if I can find a good place that is not too expensive, and will let me & the DH drink a beer by the campfire, lol. We only require electric, and since we will be spending most of our time away from the CG it doesn't need to have alot of campground activities.

Thanks to all in advance for your advice/input!!

We had stayed at Tohickon Family Campground in Quakertown, PA this past summer.  I believe we were there 2 nights.  Access to Philly is easy, it's about the closest campground to the city that we could find.  There's another one nearby, also in Quakertown, but I don't remember the name of the campground now.  We didn't spend much time in the campground at all, most of our time there was touring Philly, so we can't say too much about it.

French Creek SP is not too far.  We have not stayed there yet, but I have driven through.  You can also do a seach with http://www.epgsoft.com/CampgroundMap/

I live about 15 miles from Center City Philadelphia in a town called Marlton (on the Jersey Side).

If you don't mind staying like 30-45 mins away one option is Wharton State Park in Jersey.....Thats like the closest place to me, then down a little ways from Wharton State Park is Paradise Lake CG (private CG).

Another option in PA is Colonial Woods CG:  http://www.colonialwoods.com/index.html

We stayed there once, not very private type of sites, but its like I would guess 40 minutes away from Philly (maybe a little more).

That's probably all I can think of....You should have a good time at the Constitution Center, Independence Mall, Betsy Ross' house, walking the cobblestone streets, etc...

Although you did niot state at what time of the year who plan on traveling I would also suggest French Creek State Park, I have stated there in the past and it is a decent park, just my .02.
