Odd that I read this this morning and just last night had a dream that I caught our 12 yo smoking.  It was not good.  Only good thing about it... it was only a dream.

At any rate, don't use this on your 7 yo.  Save it, say for about 10 years.  It will be very appropriate then.  I do speak from experience here.  Our 2 older children are now 28 and 26.  They are just now beginning to ask me for advice on lfe's issues.  Funny how you suddenly get really smart again, just like you were when they were 7.   Of course, they HAVE left home and ARE paying their own way now.  Sadly, the 26 yo did do what your poster suggested at age 17 for about 6 months.  Well, at least the move out part.  It does happen and it was not an easy event to live through.  We have a wonderful relationship with her now, so things worked out in the end.  She lives about 15 miles from us.  The oldest is about 250 miles away.  We love all 3 of them.

Girlfriend--Just you wait till he is a teenager.  This adolescent stuff is easy:D .

One person on this board had a phrase under hiis signature that said "if I learned by my mistakes, I would be a genius",  This is my motto!!;) :D

I was one of those young teenagers.  When I was in 5th grade, I got caught up in the wrong crowd and started smoking and ditching school.  I even got a ride in the back of a Sheriff 's car.   That was short lived because when my step-dad found out, he put an end to it QUICKLY.

Matt too thinks he knows it all.   I'm looking forward to the years when the kids go through my  stage.  JOY

Melissa: "Daddy, you don't know."

This is regarding proper pronunciation of "library".

Oh, by the time they're seniors in high school, they do know it all and mom becomes totally stupid.  Just ask my son.

Our son just turned 9 going on 20. He debates with us, pushes the issues, is sneaky, thinks he knows how to change our minds, only to discover mom and dad don't back down and we are smarter than he thinks we are. I think they are born with this attitude. In some ways I was the same, but a good kid. Never gave my parents any trouble...my brother on the other hand was kicked out of the house at 16. Now we are both 40+ and age does have its advantages...mature and level headed. Now we do know more than before. I guess i'm saying they will come around and out grow it...what ever "it" is...:)
