Congrats on the new Avalon!! We love ours! I don't know anything about Palm Desert but wanted to send a WAVE to a fellow Avalon owner.

Congratulations on your new Avalon, that is such a beautiful trailer. We had an 05 Niagara and it's almost like that but in a larger box. What I love most about your trailer is that it has the U-Shaped dinette. Have many enjoyable trips in it.

Now, back to your question. I have family in in Palm Spring/Desert and they couldn't recommend anyplace for us. They stated that med/heavy winds come up and most placed won't take Popups. My step mom's family owns a Place called Sam's Family Spa www.samsfamilyspa.com)  . It has natural springs you can get into and is supose to be a nice place to go (I've never been there).

Sue, this place was brought up years' ago and was shot down because of winds. I just called them and they stated that there isn't much wind in March. This would be a lesser expensive place for us to go and still be able to visit family. It's worth giving it a whirl.  What's the worst thing that can happen, we'll have to turtle it.

The wind sometimes blows 60+mph in that area. Just about any given afternoon it may get up over 20mph. It's not uncommon to drive down Hwy 10, in that area and find an RV or big rig laying on it's side from strong wind gusts. That's why they have those huge "Wind Generator Farms" out there. http://www.phototour.minneapolis.mn.us/locations/palm_springs/6439

The Coachella Valley is the 2nd windiest spot on the planet:

Years ago (on a planet far - far away :p ) I used to drive through that area with my motorhome, pulling a trailer with dune buggy on my way to Glamis Sand Dunes. We made that trip almost every other weekend. Sometimes the wind would be blowing so hard that they would stop traffic and we would have to come home, over the mountain, through Julian and San Diego.

The windy season is late Winter and Spring. Then the temps get up over 110 and the winds lessen.

Wowser! Really?? I never knew this. So maybe I should change plans. We always to to dead horse National Park and camp, but wanted to go somewhere I have not been. Thought Palm Desert would be a good place, then take the 17 year old  last-child-in-the-house for possibly one more spring camping trip.
If they won't take pop up's then I am uncertain of our new destiny.

Twolarsons, we love our Avalon-Traded in our 05 Niagara last November, then had to store it for the winter.  :-() Hubby cannot wait to get out there and get two batteries put on it and some other little things he likes to do to it. Dont have any pictures yet, have not even been able to sleep in it yet.
Thanks guys! I am glad I asked you all.

Wavery is right. I used to live in Palm Springs and the area around the "10" gets pounded by high winds. Congrats on the new rig.

DH lived in Yucca Valley & worked at Desert Hospital in Palm springs for 16 years and that's what he said too...one thing I hate more than sand is wind

Clarabelle

I grew up in that area.  I didn't know what an unpitted windshield looked until I moved away thanks to the sand and wind.  I miss some of the people there, but I don't miss that wind.

I see that our remote is different than yours.  But other than yours being a year older, and the remote, everything else is the same.  I still need to get pics of ours, will do that when we go out next weekend to that giant wonder of a hole in the ground we call the Grand Canyon.. hehehe, we are excited, well the kids don't know where we are going yet, but I'm sure they'll like it.

Laresens pics are fun! Thanks for the correct link

Maybe that is where we should go, the grand canyon, on spring break in april. Where do you camp? *(favorite spot)
Are you driving far to get there?
Also has anyone recieved the recall (speaking of remotes for the lift) from fleetwood to fix the lift? I am not sure if it is for the 07 and/or 08
Looking forward to your response
Diane

I got the recall notice a couple weeks ago but had heard about it in December. My dealer has ordered the parts and I'll take it in when they call me. I can still use the PU, just not raise/lower while plugged in to shorepower. No big deal.

Did you read the notes on the pictures of my remote? That was my first big SPUT! We drove 50 miles, dragging the remote on the road the whole way.  :banghead:
