Hi all - anyone have a suggestion for a campground within reasonable driving distance of Pittsburgh? We want to go into the city to see a Pirates game. We have 2 young children and are looking for someplace low-key. Our ideal cg has electric hookups and a simple playground, clean restrooms of course, and nicely spaced and wooded sites. We don't need or want bands and hayrides. So, if anyone can recommend one of the state park cgs or a nice, quiet private cg, we'd be very grateful!

We've stayed at the Mountaintop Campground in Tarentum, PA.  It's a Passport America campground, so our rate is only about $17 per night.  It's always been very quiet.  Not much in the way of facilities, I believe they may have a shower room, but we've never used it.  We have a TT, so we use our own bathroom.  They have arrangements there that all but give you full hookups.  There is no playground.  It is literally a flat mountaintop, an open area with no trees.  The owners are the nicest people you could ever meet.  It is an easy drive into Pittsburgh from the campground.

Our daughter lives nearby, which is the reason we use this campground.  We have tickets to 2 of the 3 Pirates skyblast games in August.  Daughter is getting married this April.  We'll be at the campground a few times this year.  It's nice to see someone else admit to being a Pirate fan, there aren't many of us out there.  But then, that keeps the ticket price down.  Now, if you could get tickets to a Steelers game...

Raccoon Creek State Park. About 30 minute drive to the ball park. Nice campground with a playground and a swimming area close by on the lake. Or a little further north try Bear Run Campground. Have a great trip!
