Thanks,  I hope it works out.  The dealer would not let me take it for a test tow.  I think I asked too many questions.  I should of got him to let me have it for an extended test drive and just took it.

Hope you guys had a fun time camping.  I would have loved to go but between family and dealing with the trailer/vehicle headache I could not get it together.  See you all at the next one.

If we can get it together we may just run up to Pine Grove KOA for a shake down cruse next weekend.  Not sure if it is good yet to de-winterize the trailer.  I don't think we should get any more long cold spells.

Quote from: dademtWell, we are getting nicole one on monday ( used ) as a backup for our primary tv.  I can't see them being a problem for towing with.  Good luck with it.

Is the Overdrive shut off when you are towing? When I forget to turn mine off (remember I drove a 5 speed manual for years), the engine strains and pulls.

It takes time to get used to the slingshot effect, I guarantee that after wahile you will barely notice it...It took me about 3 years of towing (of course NOT constantly), but I am a VERY nervous driver.

We now have the 2003 Expedition XLT.  Will be giving it a try towing tonight.  I will let you all know.

Good Luck camperjohn!  What motor / trim level / axle ratio did'ja get??  Send some pics - I bet the new truck is pretty!

dademt - I just read that you're getting one too??  Can't wait to see yours as well...

My new truck with the 5.4 tows the little aliner very very well.  Of course I am 8,000 pounds UNDER my tow rating. lol

Let me know.  We just picked nicoles up on monday night.  I still haven't gone out yet to get the 7 pin and the brake controller done yet.

Let me tell you.  Night and day difference.  It felt (sort of) more like the pop up would behind the explorer.  I felt the trucks go by but not much more then I do in the car alone.  Not breaking any speed records but can hold 60 without straining too hard.  About 2100 rpm I think. I am sure I can make it go faster but want to look after the gas consumption as much as I can.

The truck is a 2003 XLT Expedition with the heavy duty tow package.  5.4 L Engine with the 3.73 gearing I believe.  3rd row seat,  Rear Air.  Not really overloaded with the options but has all the things I use and like.

My WD hitch is still set for the explorer and seems a little low at the tongue.  I have to get that all adjusted.  I am sure that when I get the WD set up right it should tow even better.

Looking forward the camping this weekend.  Rain on friday night but after sunday morning should be nice.

Thanks all for your help.

Scott I had to retrofit my Windstar for the full brake controller and lights.  Not too hard but does get involved running that wire thru the car.  Good luck.

BTW.  The Santa Fe is now sold.  First people to look at it bought it.  $4250.  Not much less then I bought it for.
