It was my fathers birthday. I figured a good gift for him would be a camping trip. We had been to Roper Lake last Thanksgiving, and it was a good time. We arrived Friday morning, and I got the last spot with hookups. The site does take reservations, but they require 2 weeks notice. I was placed in Hacienda campground. This spot is close to the bathrooms and the hot tub, but does not have a covered picnic table. They have remodeled since I was there last. The cottonwood loop has all covered table spots and full hookups. We again caught our limit of fish, and my son caught a fish for the first time. I also tried dutch oven cooking for the first time, and I worry I may be addicted! There were a lot more motorhomes and huge fifth wheels this time. It seemed the campground was taken over by the snowbirds. I will try the cottonwood loop next time, as they had a nice selection of popups and people actually camping. The hot tub was nice as usual. We also went to Dankworth pond and the kid played on the sparse playgound. They also have a re-created indian village which is worth the short 1 mile hike to get there. I did witness something I have never seen before. At 7:00 PM, a popup camper right next to the lake was invated with a huge swarm of mosquitoes. It was so bad they had to close up and go home. They all came in 1 huge swarm and hit only him. I had no idea that could happen. The weird thing is we did not have any mosquitoe problems. The campsite next door to the invasion did not get any critters either. I still have no idea why a swarm would atttack 1 popup and leave everyone else alone. If anyone has ever experienced or witnessed that, I would like to know what the heck that family did. We left on Sunday and make the 3 hour drive back to Chandler. I find I really enjoy other popup campers because they are actually weekenders that enjoy camping. I am losing patience with these huge motorhomes with the big screen TV's and washer/dryers.

It sounds like the plot of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Kind of funny in a way but not to the family it happened to I'm sure.

Glad you had a good time. We are going to try to get there soon. We are thinking about staying there in Oct when we make our annual trip to Wilcox to go apple picking. We are thinking of staying there Fri and Sat nights and then go apple picking on Sunday.

I'll touch bases with you at the end of the summer to see if we can plan a trip together there in Oct.
