Quote from: jendak760Uh oh... Ummmmm add water to the battery? Hmmm... :eyecrazy:
It's not that bad. Figure out where the battery is- typically a black box on the tongue next to the propane. It's probably belted to the trailer. Undo the belt. and wrestle off the lid (the tough part of this job) and you'll have a battery staring at you.  Find some eye protection, and undo those 6 nubs in a row or two bars running across the top. Look inside. See water? good. Don't see water or see some water but what looks to be edges of a bunch of sheets or metal? bad. Add distilled water to just cover the metal. Try not to overfill. I use an old bike water bottle labeled for this purpose. Replace caps.

Then wash your hands!  If you used any rags etc. just pitch them.
Replace the lid and belt and plug it in overnight. No problem.
You can- skip the water step, but know that you're shortening the life of the battery.

Thank you for something to do during this zzzz of a meeting!

Thank you for your help. I defintely knew where the battery was. In fact, the "strap" broke before the trip to Santa Paula. So thanks for reminding me. I need to go get a new strap and a pin for the front wheel. I'll worry about the vent cover thing I broke last trip while packing up the trailer another time. :eyecrazy:

Anyone know of a good "rent a man" place? I could use one for all of these "manly" things I need done...

Jennifer, just bungy cord the battery cover to the frame, dont worry to much about the water if it's a sealed battery. As for how long they last it will depend on what size 27/29/31 etc. and as said before some SCCampers have generators for a quick recharge if you use the heater all nite, but take a few extra blankets ( cheap Insurance) so you dont get cold. The vent is a differant story you may have to bribe someone to fix that if it not to broken.

See everyone hopefully tomorrow night.

Jen,

When dry camping--no electric heaters and no electric blankets. You'll need to use your furnace, girlfriend, or get snuggly with the DDs.  :frosty:

Yes she is right, NO heater (no power),  Just the furnace....I say heater they say furnace. But they both make you warm.Make sure you have propane.

Got back earlier today from this rally. Couldn't have asked for better weather yesterday--warm and calm--a perfectly lazy day to spend on the beach watching all the kids playing in the sand and the water.

It was great to see everyone. The dinner potluck was wonderul as was the company around the campfire. In true SCCampers fashion, we saw the ring around the moon, predicted rain (thanks for backing me up Wayne!), and had to put things in under the awning at 2:00 a.m. because...it was raining!!! The awning got put away a little later due to the high winds. What is it with weather and this group??? :eyecrazy:

Thanks Shirleen for organizing this rally and for the plaster sand molds. Griffin loved that--uh, that and Dakota helping him...;) Thanks Mike for the help on the thermostat. Dave's going to check out Walmart for a new digital one.

We're already counting the days until the next camp out (New Year's Eve) and trying to figure out if we can squeeze one in before then!

Recumbentman

As all our wonderful scamper friends were enjoying the beach, we headed out the the Lucerne Valley to a "dry" lake bed to watch the scouts shoot off rockets at "Rocstock".  Saturday was warm and wonderful...we were prepared for the wind and put up the awning up before bed...then the wind blew, visions of New Years last year...then the rain...then the dry lake bed was MUD!  We were up at 6am, packed and out by 6:30am!  Well, after setting up the pup at home, pulling everything out and cleaning out the red mud that was collected, washing down every inch inside and out...we are ready to go again! (Brian can have his Dez)  Oh, should I say, camping, but no more Rocstock!  It was great to see the rockets fly high into the sky, but don't want to camp there ever again!

We are looking forward to New Years!

digital thermostat   do tell

This is the Digital Thermostat I use in my PUP click here

Mike, does that thermostat run on batteries?  I was under the opinion that it needs to be 12 volt-friendly so that it'll run when not hooked up to electricity.  Does yours work that way?

Ours has 2 AA batteries, furnaces in trailers are gas so all the T-stat is controlling is the blower/heat 12v circuit (no 120v needed..unless battery is dead). Your standard t-stat is a looped bi-metal coil when heating it flexes which opens the circuit ,on cool down it closes it and starts the furnace agian, A digital is a solid state controller and alot more accurate. In PUPs the thermostat is close to the floor and since heat rises it takes longer to cycle, Ive modded ours completely and it works great now.

Most Digital T-stats controll heat/ac but can be used only as a heat cycle thermostat. If Im wrong i'll be corrected ;)

original t-stat mod to digital then these 2 followed:
T-Stat Mod
T-stat mod

The thermostat that we have in our pup is "very user friendly".  Plug it in, adjust to your optimum temperature and forget it. Adjusting the temperature is as easy as using up & down arrows....a 5 yr old could use it....soooo, those of you with 5 yr olds are good to go   :D
