Anyone been to Colonel Denning SP near Harrisburg, PA?  We made reservations for Memorial Day week-end.  This will be our first trip out with our first PU.  Looking forward to it.

Sean, I found this review on another forum.

I gave it a 5 for scenery and a 1 for attractions. This is camping at it's finest but not for you if you need the hyperactive, tech camping style. The park is geared towards both tenting and trailering. Smaller PUPs and travel trailers have nothing to worry about. Bigger trailers (>21-22') should carefully follow the web reservation systems restrictions. Some sites are backwards oriented for trailers. The scenery is spectacular, the beach is within walking distance and acceptable. Pit toilets can get "ripe" on those hot summer days. There are no showers in this park. The park is well maintained, well attended to and very quiet in the evenings. Rediscover what you like about camping. Hiking abounds with lots of photographic opportunities. The Tuscarora/Big Blue trail intersects the park and the Appalachian Trail is approximately 18 miles away. Don't miss the hike to Flat Rocks (5 miles round trip) though be prepared for a strenous hike/climb. Allow lots of time and you will be rewards. Creekside sites are nice. Recommended sites are 1,2,3,4,5,6,9. 10 and 11 work good for paired campers. 21, 22, 24, 33,35,37,39,49, 51 and 52. 52 being especially nice. Sites 42 and 43 are backwards oriented.

Thanks,

We were looking for reservations for Memorial Day weekend and that was the only place we could find with hookups that was not too far from home.  This will be our first time out with our first PU.

Thanks again.

I have camped there a few times, as the Keystone Area Boy Scout camp is not far away, and I camp while my boys are at boyscout camp.  I like this campground as it is very clean and well taken care of.  They have pit toilets and no showers.  There is a sandy beach with a lake for swimming.  There is not alot of things to do in the area, but sight seeing is always nice.  My favorite camp site is #4...right by the creek with running water.  Have fun and enjoy the camping on your first trip.
