Smores

My first SPUT, or at least what I guess is a sput.

The door to the camper is on the wrong side for loading from the house. So on getting it in the drive I unhooked and spun it around by hand.
2 days of cleaning, organizing and packing, and I'm ready to collapse it back in. Flawless operation, I'm so pleased with this new PU I could tickle myself. I go to lift the tongue to turn it back around and it doesnt move.
PANIC sets in instantly (I'm rather quick to envision the worst possible scenario) My loading plan must be horribly wrong, waaaaay to much weight to the front, man I'm going to have to put it back up and totally redistribute.
So to get a rough estimate of tongue weight I put everything I have into it, I get it off the ground maybe an inch or 2. I figure holy cow thats like probably 800 lbs, where in the world did all that weight come from?
I go inside and get a scale. (DW protesting vigorously it will destroy it) As I walk back outside I notice I haven't lifted the stabilizers.

I was lifting the entire front of the camper off the ground supporting it on the rear stabilizers while I was trying to weigh it LOL

DW is happy... scale is back in the bathroom where it belongs.(unscathed)   =)

Dude are you related to the governor of California?  I'm a pretty big boy and fairly strong I couldn't lift the tongue of my trailer when empty even if it was on my foot.  I have a Fleetwood Williamsburg.  What are you sportin?  I can't imagine lifting the Poppie's tongue or moving him around by hand.  :eyecrazy:  WOW :eyecrazy:  :eyecrazy:

I want Smores on my side when the bullies come around to pick on me!

Don't worry, if you can lift a pop up off the ground like that no one is going to call you stupid.

LOL that is a new one on me.:)

Obviously you were lifting the front with the tongue jack.....You were lucky if you didn't damage anything.

Anyway, if you do run into that problem in the future, just have someone stand on the rear bumper to relieve the tongue weight from the jack wheel. :sombraro:  That'll make it easy to move by hand.

We do that quite often when we want to turn our PU in the campsite for a better view.

lol.....that's a beaut.  Thanks for being cool and sharing that one.  Glad I'm not the only one doing stuff like this.

ScouterMom
