When are hook-ups a must for you?

I actually "prefer" hook-ups but when I "must" have hook-ups, is when it's hot & I need my A/C..I don't do heat well or if going for a long period of time so my Black tank doesn't get full.

That's our strategy - beach from March to May and September to November, the mountains of west-by-god-virginny in the heat of summer.
We're boondockers, mostly, so hook ups are never considered. We use them if we have them, but we have no A/C or electronics. We have a solar shower and a 5 gal. bucket with toilet seat so amenities are optional.
I've noticed that car-tent campers, backpackers and canoe campers who now own pop ups seem to do more with less. Folks who moved to pop ups from the living room sofa seem to need to carry more stuff and require more amenities to be comfortable. (This observation excludes special needs folks, of course. e.g. someone requiring a ventilator needs hook ups.)

It's funny but I can't get my kids to stay up when we go camping. At home they would stay up until midnight if we let them but when we go camping they are complaining they are tired before 8 o'clock.

Hook-ups are only a MUST when going for longer than one, maybe two nights. Our DS has a hard time going to sleep without TV (I know...we are HORRIBLE parents...but that is the only time the TV is on...when we come in, we cut it off). We also MUST have power when it is really hot/humid. Fortunately, most of our camping is in the Blue Ridge Mtns, so unless it is in the middle of the summer, we normally don't need the fan. Never need water hook-up.

Hookups are a must for us since two summers ago when we stayed at a state park near Lake George with no hookups.  Hubby,  DD and DS all voted on never camping without hookups again.  I,  on the otherhand enjoy the challenge of functioning without the modern conveniences.  But I'm out-voted.

We choose our parks for the natural features/activities they have to offer and drive time from home (beach, mountains, etc.) so the hookup issue is never considered.  When there is a water hookup, I think I appreciate that more than electric or sewer.  That's not to say that when I have electric I don't use it (lights inside at night and running the heater) and it's certainly easier to dump the dishwater bucket into the site sewer than hauling it somewhere.

What IS considered is shower facilities - those are a MUST.  I've thought about a solar shower but I just feel like we already have too much to pack/worry about as it is and in addition to the shower itself there's the wastewater disposal, etc.

I have health issues, so I do prefer the amenities of water/electric.  I do enjoy having a sewer site over not having one, but will utilize 'big blue' if needed.

I bought my PUP requiring AC and a potty - so ended up with a Niagara.  I do not sleep well in extreme heat and humidity, so I do enjoy the AC, which of course requires electric!

I'm getting too old and crotchety to 'rough-it' like I did when tenting, so do use the amenities when available.
