Replace cooler with Microwave Mod??

I believe I saw someone on here that replaced the ineffective cooler in their PUP with a shelf and a microwave.  Does anyone know the post for this.

If I just dreamt it, will it work?  Will the micro run off the standard inverter?

I mentioned this mod to my wife, and she jumped all over it...

Not sure what you mean by "standard" inverter.

Most of the small microwaves use 800-900W. You would need a 1000w inverter and 2 batteries. If you try to run a microwave off of 1 battery, you may overload it.

Do you even have an inverter??? You're not thinking of your "Converter" are you?

An "inverter" changes 12v DC (battery) to 110v AC (home current) and is something that you have to install separately. Your PU doesn't come with one.  A "converter" (what comes with your camper) changes your home current to 12v DC.

Here's how we did our microwave:

Here's how I did our 2500w inverter:

QuoteI guess I meant converter.  We (unlike you) have only dry camped once, so we would not be running the micro off the batteries, only from the AC at camp.

Your converter will run the microwave just fine..... :sombraro:

If you try to run anything else at the same time, it may pop the circuit breaker. Not a big deal, just turn off whatever else is running and reset it.

That inverter looks like it's mounted under a bed slide out - is it?

Does it stay there and slide in and out while mounted, or do you hook it up after you set up?

It's a great idea - keeps it off the ground, out of any weather & elements and where people and critters won't yank any cords....

I have a mounting bracket permanently mounted under the bunk that the inverter slips into after I pull the bunk out. It takes about 1 minute. When I tear down, I put the inverter in a zippered storage bag. We love zippered storage bags and have one for just about everything that we bring.

When I want 110v, all I have to do is stick my arm through the bunk canvas and turn on the inverter. It's nice for that early morning pot of coffee and/or cooking the turkey bacon for breakfast during quiet time. :D
