As I was closing the door to my pup this afternoon, putting some last minute things in it for the short trip we are taking today, I noticed that the latch on the door, you know when you turn the lock and the bars come out to hook into the pup body... (not sure if it is called a latch) on the left side broke off.  It was always tight on that side and now it is gone.  There is still the one on the right and the door still closes tight, however, looking at it quickly, I don't see a way to get into the door to fix the latch.  Do I need to take it to the dealer to get this repaired, or is there a way to fix the lock or do we just need a new door?

Thanks!

OK, here is a picture of the right side.  You see the brass "thing" that is what has broken off (I am assuming since it is no longer there) the left side.  Like I said the door still shuts tight.  I can also hear something (again, assuming it is the left side "thing") rattling inside the door.

here are more pictures of the door:

Jill, that latch is just bar stock. It probably didn't break, just came loose from the locking mechanism. You'll have to disassemble the door to get to it, but it should be an easy fix.  Mick

Pics make an amazing difference.... :D

I didn't realize that you had one of those drop down doors. :eyecrazy:

Are those screws or rivets? If they're rivets, you may have to drill them out to get the door apart. I don't have that kind of door so I can't tell. I know that Recumbentman has that door, maybe he'll have an idea.

They are rivets.  :(  BUT, DH say my dad has a riveter so he thinks it would be easy to fix.
I thought I broke it, but DH fessed up and told me it happened last time he closed the door.  I told him to just put a pad lock latch on it but he said that would look... well... not nice... and that was when he said to me not to worry about it since my dad has a riveter and he would be able to fix it.
But since I am a worrier, I am just hoping it stays put for the 30 or so   miles we are going as soon as DH gets off work...

He's right..... the rivets drill out pretty easily. Putting new rivets in is just a matter of lining up the holes, inserting the rivet and pulling the trigger on the rivet gun. If yer gonna fix it....fix it right ;) .

A "pad lock".... :eyecrazy:  yee gads.... :yikes:

I discovered very quickly when we got our pup that a rivet gun was a must have item. I got mine at Harbor Freight for around $12 I think. It's not the highest quality in the world but it's worked everytime I've had to use it.

You would probably need to put more work into reinforcing the PopUp's side wall to install a padlock! :p   There is not much besides air behind that thin metal side panel close to the step door.:D

Besides, how often do you get to play with a rivet gun! :-()

Now ya'll know you wanted to see the rusted hasp and lock on the side of that pup going down the road.  It would look real redneckish and kind of cool in a cheap South Carolina sort of way.  It would be kind of like a South of the Border  :sombraro: bumper sticker on a Rolls Royce.
