I've searched threads for mold & mildew stain removal. I did use the 10% bleach recommendation to kill the buggers.  Now I'm left with stains.  Anyone out there ever use OxiClean?  Looks like the Sodium Percarbonate route will clean but wanted to check first.  Thanks!

After using bleach, it best to use Woolite and a soft brush to get out the stains. If that doesn't work, you may be stuck with the stains.

I haven't used OxiClean. If you use it, let us know how it goes.

I contacted Jayco Customer Service and here's what I got.  We'll see - I ordered some.  It's this or $1,500 full canvas replacement.

We have received your email regarding the removal of mildew/mold from
your tent canvas.  A company called Iosso Products manufactures a
product called Mold and Mildew Stain Remover.  My understanding is that
you can never completely remove the mildew stain, but we have received favorable reports from retail customers who have used this product.  Your success depends on how long the mildew has been present.

After cleaning the canvas, you will want to re-apply a product like 3M's
Scotchgaurd Outdoor Fabric Water Repellent (#5014) or heavy-duty Outdoor Fabric Water Repellent (#5014SC), available in most hardware stores, Sears, and Target.  You may also find additional information in your owner's manual regarding this subject.

You can order this product from your Jayco dealer with part number
0087860, or you can try contacting Iosso direct at 847-437-8400 or refer to their website at //www.iosso.com.

I think that you will find that anything that is labeled, "Mold and Mildew Stain Remover" will be nothing more than bleach and possibly detergent of some sort.

IMHO It's sorta like, do you want to pay $3 a for a pint of "Avion" water or $.99 for a gallon of the same water from the grocery store. If the label makes you feel better, go for it.

Thanks Wavery.  I hear what you're saying but they claim to be non-chlorine and bi-degradeable.  They were featured on The Today show as well.

On the Woolite 'trick' - straight up or diluted?  Shaken? Not stirred? (sorry - had to do it)  And when - immediately after the chlorine application and rinse?  Please say no - I've been done for 2 hours - east coast.

Just follow the directions on the Woolite bottle. I think it's like 2 capfuls in a bucket of water (or something like that). Timing's not important.

One other thing that I found for removing stains is SC Johnsons "Shout". Not sure what it has in it. You might want to test a spot. Also may have to waterproof after.

ScouterMom

I used Oxyclen on my entire 35 yr old canvas.  Actually took the whole thing off the camper, soaked in in oxyclean (in a kiddie pool) for a day or so and scrubbed it with a brush.

I swear by the stuff for cleaning any kind of organic stain - it works wonders and will NOT harm most fabrics.  It hasn't harmed anything I've ever used it on, and I've used tons of the stuff on everything from the camper canvas to baseball hats, to 30 yr old spit up on a baby christening gown. Most often, if the stain is fairly fresh, you simply need to soak the item in Oxyclean.  If the stain is really bad, make up a paste of oxyclen and water and apply it right to thestain and let it soak awhile. maybe scrub a bit - usually not much.

I will say that I did NOT get all the stains out of my camper's old canvas.  But after 35 yrs of neglect, it was really bad, and Oxyclean certainly got an awful lot of them out and made the canvas SMELL & feel fresh and clean, which is what i cared about even more. Some of my stains were oily, or maybe mildew, I'm not really sure what caused them - I bought the camper last year after it had been stored unused for at least 10 yrs and probably misused before then.

After the canvas was completely bone dry and back on the camper, I sprayed the whole thing with waterproofing and let it dry - twice.  It hasn't leaked in a couple of hard storms, so I guess it worked!

Hello, I've had some luck with the Iosso product. My PU had many years of neglect when we got it. I replaced some of my canvas (Canvas Replacements a great organization). I had some stains on it from mildew on my small bunk. I had heard about Iosso and I tried some other products and home remedies. I figured what the heck. I did like ScouterMom and put the entire end in a kiddie pool and it  came out pretty good. Although I did apply some waterproofing after, I get large water spots when it rains heavy but no leaks. But I chalk that up to the age of the canvas and the Iosso. I had planned on replacing that end of the canvas eventually. It wasn't cheap because they recommend so much per gallon (I used a kiddie pool to soak it). But it was cleaner in the end.

Good point.  What 30 year old would spit up on a baby getting christened? lol

Hargus - I noticed your location states the Boston area.  Me too.  Any interest in sharing camp ground reviews?  We have a few favorites but are always looking for more options.
