Replacing my batteries

DW and I own a 2006 Chalet XL 1910. It came with two 6-volt batteries and they died over the winter. We can't afford to replace even one of the batteries but can buy a new series 27. We don't do much dry camping, but may in the future go to a star party that may last three to four days off the grid. We do need the battery to raise and lower the roof, plugging in the Chalet doesn't even get a grunt from the electric tongue lift. Question is, would the single 12-volt be sufficient to replace the two 6-volts?

The group 27 will work, but it will have approximately 1/3 the capacity of the two 6 - volts.  Just be conservative with your power usage and it will last a couple to three days.  Just don't draw it down more than about 80% to get the longest life out of it.

This is the problem with going with 2-6v batteries. If one battery fails, you have nothing. I like to use 2-12v batteries. I realize that the capacity is slightly less but if 1 goes bad, you still have 12v by simply disconnecting the bad battery.
