Ive searched quite a bit for this...
Im looking into lifting my 83 Coleman Royale (axle flip) And am wondering if I would still need the Dexter conversion kit for such an older pop up? Would I not be able to re-use the existing hardware?
Also, it currently has 5.70x8 wheels on there. They basically look like golf cart wheels :(
If I can accomplish the axle flip, what size tire can I upgrade to?

Yes you need new spring seats. As to the size tire, that depends on the wheel well sizing; as it's the front and back where you find more interference than at the top.
Another thing to consider is you can put too much tire under a PU. Try and stay at or below 50% more than your current weight rating. Going much higher makes the tires so hard in comparison to the actual loading that the trailer can bound off the road at expansion strips and skitter around corners. Folks forget how much of the actual "suspension" is in the tires.

Thank you! I'll be shopping around for tires as soon as I get it lifted.

Question: If I were to just turn the axle upside down, as opposed to welding new leaf seats, would I be ruining anything other than abnormal tire wear?
Thinking of going this route since I dont know any welders that can do me that favor.

We have the same trailer and it has 12 inch tires and wheels on it.  We got it very used so I don't know if the same size tire/wheel combo will work for you.  The axle  is is the stock location.
I believe that turning the axle over would not work cause the axle tube has a "bow" built into it  for proper handling and tire wear.

i have tandem axles on my hybrid and the kits (both) cost me $67 shipped w/tax
not each both :-()

That seems like a good price.  If nothing else the piece of mind would be worth $33.00ish.
I guess someone changed the tires and wheels on our pup some time ago.  We have the same unit as Speed, 83 Destiny Royale, with 12 inch tires and wheels.  The hitch tongue height is about 19" when I put a level on it.
