02 coleman mesa hot water heater no light

hi;we bought a used 2002 coleman mesa last week.got to opening it up and getting things running.for some reason i cannot light the hot water heater and furnace.i lit all three stove burners to get the propane flowing through the lines,when i select the pilot lite position on the hot water heater  i can't smell any propane.i crawled under the unit looking for a separate on/off to the hot water tank but no luck.the same with the furnace i here the igniter trying to lite but no luck.i had the charger on the battery and it is fully charged.i am at a loss to sort this out.HELPPPP!!!! edit!! i changed out the propane tank after reading another post about insufficent pressure,well i got the furnace up and running but still no hot water tank i can't even smell gas from the orifice

the hot water heater is not the easiest to light. I always light the stove first to make sure the air is out of the lines. then go outside and turn the pilot knob to the pilot position and then press it down and hold it down while you stick your fire source (lighter) into the pilot light area. you need to keep the flame in there for a few minutes (seems like forever at times) until the air is purge from that line and the propane sensor element gets heated up. move the flame around until you see the pilot finally take hold and then just turn to the on position and you are good to go.

I always push the pilot button in and hold it for a full 90 - 100 seconds before I even try to light it.. I'll give it a "click" of the old lighter at 70 seconds but it always lights between 90 - 100 seconds.

thanks i will give this a try tomorrow as it is hurricane windy right now.will let you guys know how i make out.

Don't forget to continue holding the button in for 30 seconds after the pilot lights. Then turn it to "ON" and you should get a good "phawoomp".
