We are heading there at the end of the month for a three night stay. It says they have full hookups but in my few experiences with cg's I notice that full doesn't always mean sewer hookups. I do know that they have a dump station and that the showers are in Mathers cg nearby.

I know that this is kind of a no frills cg but we aren't going for the cg. I am so looking forward to my first trip to the Grand Canyon.

Give us a full report if you don't mind.  We'll get used to the pup this summer and are thinking of heading out there next summer as our major trip.

Shepard, we broke-in our "new-to-us" camper last August with a trip to the Grand Canyon (and a hike to the bottom and back).  Highly recommend it! We stayed in Mather Camp Ground.  The GC is simply breath taking, Mather CG is very nice and it's restrooms were immaculate.  The shower/laundry facility was equally nice.

I will do that. I have heard that Mather is the prettier cg but does not have hookups. Trailer Village is kind of no frills but walking distance to the Canyon and has hookups. We really wanted the hookups. I can't wait for this trip. The Grand Canyon is one of those "must see" places and it's taken me 51 years to get there. I intend to make the most of it.

Thanks for the info folks, I'll start looking at Mather and Trailer Village on the net.  Start my planning now.  AZsix, congrats on getting out there this year and living the dream.  Austinado16, thanks for the recommendations. Good to hear from folks that have actually gone before. I'm sure the wife and I will be blown away by it and the kids, while thinking it cool, will not understand it until later in life. :)

I've read reviews and most of them were positive. They all said pretty much the same thing, it's no frills but the closest you can get to the Canyon itself. We plan on only being there pretty much to eat and sleep anyway.

As far as "getting out there" I'm almost embarrassed to say that I only live about 4.5 hours away from it. We were waiting until our youngest was old enough.

I'll give a full report of the cg and the Canyon when I get back.

I think your kids will be blown away.  A word of caution. There are no railings in many places.  Short walls, open-type fencing, and that's about it.  That first drop is about a thousand feet straight down.  People die there year round due to everything from heat exhaustion and heat stroke, to falling over the edge.

I will agree that caution should be taken.  Also, there is loose gravel along some of the walkways so take extra caution if you are near he edge.

Also, if you know that it will be close to dark when you will be in the park, please bring a flashlight along.  It gets very dark there quickly.
DW gave some people a ride back to their campsite after church because they couldn't see their way.

Beautiful place to visit and the views are awesome but be cautious.
Bus service in the park is great.

Enjoy

Hey Gary,

Sorry, been a bit busy, YES the full hook-ups at Trailer Village include sewer, also they have a cable hook up, a few channels, but one is really cool and just talks about the canyon.  Have fun and Enjoy!!  We had loads of fun up there a couple months ago, even with the snow on the ground.. hehehe

We stayed at Trailer Village.  It does indeed feature full hookups, including sewer.

Being that we spent most of our time away from the campground earning the Jr. Ranger badges, visiting Indian sites, and riding the train to Williams and back the FULL hookups were greatly appreciated!!  It's nice to have A/C and unlimited showers when its over 100F degrees out!! :tent:

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear they have sewer hookups. I may actually use the shower for the first time. I keep looking at the weather and the highs are in the 80's but still going into the upper 30's at night. I can't wait to get up there!
