Old Starcraft

Don't forget to let us know how it went. I think this weekend I made some memories for my 11YO son. We were camping in Charleston, SC Fir., and Sat. night. We were planning on one more night....but........

Last night there were some tornado watches and warnings that of course we were not aware of since we didn't bring a weather radio. Around 3am the thunder woke us, it started to hale, the winds knocked our bunk end covers up and started a nice influx of rain. After an hour or so we went back to sleep. We arose and was surpised that our 32 YO awning will still standing, heavy rain and winds still going strong (Thanks to my DS Boy Scouts knot tying skill, and the good lord looking over us). When we went to sleep there we a good 15 tent campers along the lake, only 2 were left when we woke (I'm sure they headed for a Hotel).

After a trip to the recreation center (has a TV, we were at a KOA)  in the morning we were going to wait it out despite continued warnings, but just as we got back to the camper a there was a small tear in the awning close to the camper. Within a few seconds it shredded several feet with one of the poles slapping me right in the head. We took this a warning, packed it up and headed out ASAP. Oh..yeah... almost forgot.. I brought all 3 of our bikes, had to load them on the top of the TV with the winds. I discovered pretty quickly that it was best to time the lift after some of the peak wind gusts.

On the way out I noticed that we were the last campers / pop-ups left in the campground.

Ah.... the memories..... Maybe would should start a posting of the worst / most comical trips ever :-() . We could give the rights to publishing these to the POP-UP TIMES admin for publishing in a book so he could make millions and retire..well not millions, but....... letting him make a few bucks, after all he deserves it :D
