Hi,

I have a new canvas from Bear Creek and my old gasket was attached to the old canvas.  The old gasket wasn't usuable so they told me to get a trunk fit kit or something like that.  Has anyone ever replaced the gasket and if so, I'd appreciate some tips.

Thanks

Is your camper too old for the "correct" stuff to still be available?

I'm not familiar with what your camper uses, but there is alot of "extruded" rubber weatherstripping avialable from various companies.  If you saved some of your old stuff, then you can probably go online and look at catalogues that show cross-section views and find something pretty close.....or something that would work just as good.

As an example:  Woolies Trim in the UK.   //www.woolies-trim.co.uk  I've ordered from them several times.  Another good one is "Macgregor's" in Canada.  I'm sure there are others, and if you have an automotive upholstery shop in your area, they'll have books showing all kinds of cross sections.

If those don't work for you - look for gaskets for refridgerators or freezers - their heavy/wide gaskets may be similar, or at least, a workable alternative.

Pardon my stupidity, what's a roof gasket?  I don't think I have one of those on my pup.  I have a 2006 Fleetwood Williamsburg.

A roof gasket is the seal around the edge of the roof, that seals the roof to the box when popped down.  The poster is not referring to the roof seal, but to the seal that you slide into the track on the roof of the PU that attaches the tenting to the ceiling.  You have both seals on your camper. :)

I'll have to check that out the next time we're out.  I don't remember seeing any seals or gaskets.  It makes sense that there would be one, but I don't remember seeing it.  It must be very hard to try to fit it up inside there.  I can't imagine.  You must have fingers the size of a baby to fit up in there.  There's just no room.

Thanks everyone, maybe I don't have the name right but it was originally sewn onto the canvas and they sealed the area between the roof and the camper.  A friend did find some rubber for me and it looks like it is working.  I have about a 1" area to fit it into and it fit perfect and is about an inch thick too.  I needed more than he had so he's going to order some for me and then I'll take a heavy hose to it closed up and see if it works.

If not, I'll be back to looking for other suggestions.

If you have time, post a picture so we can see what you're talking about.  You definately have my curiousity up.  My Starcraft has an extruded rubber seal that's in a channel in the bottom edge of the roof.  So the rubber faces down and when the roof is lowered onto the box, the roof's seal presses down onto the box.  I'd like to see how yours is set up.

When you test for leaks, test in the way rain falls.....don't just blast water sideways into the camper....otherwise, you may get a bad result and think it's because your seal isn't working.

I can take some pictures this weekend and thanks for the tip about spraying it as if it were really raining.  I won't have the other shipment of rubber until next week but I can do the side that it's installed in.
