I am a nubie on pop up camping and will be using it at the deer lease. We don't have any electricity so I will be using a generator. How do you set up for using the generator?  Do you have to keep it covered in case of rain? What about the connection of the extension chords? What about using a port-a-potie...where is it stored? What are some common problems I need to look for? I want also to use a boat so I will have to pull it behind the camper...is this ok to do?

thanks and will appreciate all the help I can get

Welcome James!

Check your state's laws regarding towing 2 trailers at the same time.  It may not be legal.  Not to mention the fact that a pop-up's rear bumper is not really designed for towing anything.

To use your generator, you'd simply plug in the electrical extention cord that's built into your camper, just like you would, if you were hooking up to a 110v feed at a camp ground.  Tuck the generator under one of the bunks if it starts to rain.

You can keep your porta-potti in the camper or buy one of those "outhouse" tents like Walmart and others sell.

First welcome to the forum.  Now to your questions"

We don't have any electricity so I will be using a generator. How do you set up for using the generator?

I would recommend that you get either two 12 volt (connected in parallel) or 6 volt golf cart batteries (connected in series)  just use the generator and a three stage smart charger to keep them charged versus running the generator all the time as the only source of electricity.

Do you have to keep it covered in case of rain? What about the connection of the extension chords?

Yes you need to keep it covered say under the bunkend.  You can either plug in a  heavy duty 15 amp extension cord or with the use of an adapter plug the 30 amp PUP cord directly into the generator,

What about using a port-a-potie...where is it stored? What are some common problems I need to look for?

You can store the port a potie where ever in the PUP you have space.  You will need black water chemicals to prevent odor.  You might want to consider getting a small shower tent that you can keep it out side as an out house.

I want also to use a boat so I will have to pull it behind the camper...is this ok to do?

Nope this is a bad idea as the bumper and frame was not designed for this and you will have handling problems.  Plus I believe it might be illegal in most states.

Hope this helps.

As for the generator:   go buy another battery.   Charge both batteries at home before leaving for camp.   You will have enough power to last for 4-5 days if you don't run your heater all night.

As for the porta pottie:  if it's just you, inside the pup is okay.  But if you take a buddy with you, invest in outside toliet/shower tent like they sell at wally world.   Make sure your buddy knows how to operate the porta pottie.
