We are taking a one-night "check-it-out" trip next weekend (June 14th - they are also having a Bluegrass Festival from 2pm - 10pm at the Ampitheater, for anyone interested). Anyone been there? Depending on how it goes, we may just cancel our week-long trip to Frontier Town in MD and go here for the week. Gas prices are starting to really hurt!! Not to mention everything else that goes up because of high gas prices (i.e. groceries).

Also, I want to break in our dutch oven and I am looking for an easy kid-friendly chicken recipe. Mind you, we have NEVER cooked in a DO, so I am a 100% novice. Maybe I should pack some hot dogs just in case, lol....

Any insight would be great!!

We had a FABULOUS time at this VA State Park this past weekend. So much so that we are cancelling our big trip to FrontierTown in MD and booking our vacation for Holliday Lake SP (not to mention the hubby liked it so much that he wants to go back several other times this summer other than the big trip - he hailed it as his new favorite local place to camp). The sites were very nice (plus the added convenience of Water/Electric), the bath house was very well maintained, and the lake/swimming area was first rate. You just can't beat this place for $25 per night, especially when you take into consideration the $4/person fee to swim (which is FREE to campers - we camped for Sat night, but got free swimming passes for Sat & Sun). We made the easy walk from the camping area to the beach/swimming area, even lugging the appropriate gear.

We honestly can't wait for our next trip there the last week of July.
