Power converter question

Hi folks, I just bought a 1999 Rockwood 1904 and was working inside and noticed my inside lights went off, (they had been working fine).  My air Con and outlets still worked.  So, I looked at my power converter and noticed a series of 3 auto type fuses.  One was a 10 amp for the battery circuit (I don't currently have a battery on the camper at all, the box is empty).  I pulled the 10 amp fuse out and my lights came back on.  Strange, right?  I put the fuse back in and they went back off.  Huh?  Everything seemed to work just fine with the fuse out so I left it out.  My wife and I only go to campgrounds with shore power for now, so I'm not too concerned about not having a battery at the moment.

Thanks for any ideas,

[QUOTE) ...So, I looked at my power converter ..

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but I do have another question about power converters. I have a 2005 Flagstaff (identical to the Rockwood) and I woke up one morning and had no power whatsoever. The dealer said it was the converter that was blown and I just got a new one installed (cost about $250 + labor).  I'm wondering what happened? Will power surges do it? I think I recall surges the last time we used the camper (thunderstorm).
Any help appreciated.

You say you don't have a battery on your PUP ?

I believe the purpose of the 'converter' is to take the 110 volt alternating current and convert it to 12-volt - and as part of this feature, it's supposed to zap your battery with a slight charge (the circuit may be that fuse you mentioned), as well as provide power for your lights.

But, I do not know if the power to the lights from the converter is designed to go directly to the lights (must be) or be detoured via the battery circuit....

You might be able to get more information googling the make/model of your converter and looking at the schematic.

I have a WFCO in my PUP which might not be the same as yours.

Hopefully my post will 'bump' your question back to the top and you will get a response.

Yes power surges can blow your converter.:)
