Help Flushing the Hot Water Tank

Can anyone please share with me the best way to flush and empty your hot water tank.  Removing the anode rod is a pain in the butt.  Opening the low water drains I have near the inlet and outlet of the hot water heater simply remove the water pressure but don't allow the tank to drain.  It seems that no matter what I do, unless I physically remove the anode, I always have water stored in the tank.  I know its eating away at the anode rod just sitting there in my drive.

Thanks,
Flatlander

For me I find if I open my over-fill valve, most of the water comes out. I also have turned-on my hot water valve from the outside shower to let air into the line (turn off pump before doing this) and this works, but its slower this way.
Hope this helps  ;)

If you really feel you need to drain it, remove the anode.  But why?  I have yet to get less than four years service from an anode and feel the hassle of draining the tank is not worth it.  I only drain and allow the tank to dry out at the end of the camping season.

This anode with a drain valve would not allow you to flush the tank but at least it makes it easier to drain it.  Note I NOT used it so I have no real life experience.

Hope this helps.

OOPS just noticed that it is out of stock at the site above so you might have to search the internet for availability.
