I have heard that you can't take pop-ups into the National Parks out west due to the grizzley bears and other bears. From what I understand, only "hard shell" type campers are permitted. Can some one inform me of what is fact?

Depends on what you mean by "out west." The only restriction I know of is at Fishing Bridge, one of the many campgrounds in Yellowstone. We've camped in our popup in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, Rocky Mountain, Great Sand Dunes, and Gunnison. No such restrictions at those.

Ditto.

No popups allowed in Yellowstone's Fishing Bridge.

We just got back from Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Custer, and never saw a bear in a campground.  Just follow the Bear rules, and you're fine!

That sounds like one heck of a trip. I'm jealous! I hope you have some photos to share.  :)

I agree with previous posts. Go west young man, or young woman and take that pop up camper with you. You'll find lots of wonderful campgrounds out west in the National Parks to camp in.

People camp in tents out west, so YES popups are allowed in bear country.  We've been to Yosemite and Sequoia with our pop up and just followed the bear rules.
