Here is a strange sounding question. How much does a 20 lb propane tanks weigh empty or full?

My pup has two 20 lb propane tanks. The gas is used for the stove, heater, water heater and refrigerator. I am trying to monitor the gas consumption by weighing the tanks. The first weigh in tank A was 35 lbs (full?), tank B was 27 lbs. After two trips, 5 days, I show about 7 lbs of gas usage.

Does this look like reasonable consumption?

Thanks...Gary

If you look on the neck of the tank you will find a number with  "tw" in front of it. That is the weight of the tank when empty.

Great info!...Thanks

So the tank is 18 lbs, a couple of pounds for the valve...20 lbs! Makes since. How close to the tank

Nope, that 18 pounds stamped into the cylinder collar is the total weight of the empty tank. It's there so if the filler uses the weight method he knows where to set the scale for a full value.
