I had someone e-mail me about "membership" in SCCampers and thought some info on who and what we are might be helpful to those who find us here and think they may want to camp with us:

SCCampers is a very casual camping "club," and there isn't any formal membership joining procedure, unless you count the hazing rituals. Just kidding! :J

"SCCampers" stands for Southern California Campers, or SCCampers! The "founding members" met on Pop Up Times ("PUT") back in 2002 and ended up camping together and forming a "club" along the way. We've had new people find us since then and we've become a close-knit group that has a lot of fun together. New victims, uh, I mean, members, are always welcome! ;) And the best way to "join" our "club" is to just come camping with us! :)

We are mostly comprised of families with kids of all ages (including some of the "grown-ups" ;) ) but there are also some older members who often bring their grandkids. The kids actually look forward to camping with the group and hanging out with their "camping friends." Many of our kids have been camping together since they were toddlers. In any event, we welcome anyone regardless of who you are, how old you are, or what you camp in. We all started out in pop ups, and while some still have their PUs, many of us have moved on to hybrids, toyhaulers, TTs and there's even a class A motorhome now. We enjoy our "libations" around the campfire after the kids go to bed--with alcohol or not--there is no pressure to drink, but we do have a zero tolerance for drugs of any kind. With this group, you wouldn't need them anyway--we're :screwy: enough as it is!

We communicate exclusively through the PUT message boards and have trips planned months--and sometimes, even years in advance. Just keep an eye on these boards, as people post often about trips they have scheduled. If you see one you'd like to go to, just post a message and let us know you'd like to join us, but you may not want to wait too long--spaces fill up pretty quickly with this group, but there are usually cancellations as the trip date approaches due to life getting in the way, so even if you miss the initial sign up, you can be put on a waiting list and usually still be able to go. Similarly, if you've got a trip planned and want some company, just post it on the boards and who knows who might show up! Our motto is "if you post it, they will come." :sombraro:

Nice job Lori--

As one of the founding families I just want to say this is a super group of people. A lot of us no longer have popups but it is due to our popups that we have met. We fondly say "we are the people that you warn your children about". You always tell your kids not to "chat" with strangers on-line. Well, what about meeting someone you have never met in person. This was done back in 2002. Now we are "hooked".

Since then our family has moved up north. Leaving our camping friends was one of the hardest things we had to do. But we make sure that we make the "meet in the middle" rally every year. Even if gas gets to $5 a gallon, we will be there. You can't put a price on friendships. Even our kids keep in contact when we are ot camping. Text messaging is a wonderful thing (sometimes).

So don't be afraid to meet up with this group of strangers. We have so much fun. If you want to go sight seeing with your family-Go for it. If you want to sit around the campfire with us-Go for it. If you just want to stay in the camper for the day-Go for it. There is no pressure.

This is why I want to meet you folks at Lopez.  We live very close, about 35 minutes away.  We are planning to be there for Friday and Saturday nights.  Been watching the Lopez thread fairly closely, and other threads also in the SCCampers Forum.
We get to be new victims, er members hopefully.
See you all there hopefully.
