Living in southern CA, 99% of what he's said, not only hits home, but is ground zero for here.

Press 9 if you'd like to read this in spanish! :D

Got a point.  When I leave the mountain to go to San Bernardino, I feel like I've entered a foreign country.  Wasn't like that thirty years ago when I moved here.

Thank You CajunCamper

I agree with everything he says.

Well I'm offended!! he left out the Russians!

I can't help but to agree with the guy.

A funny thought is I remember my grandmother getting all snippy about the  immigrants not speaking English. I remember her going as far as calling them damn foreigners!

She was an immigrant from Russia, but had become an  American citizen long before she uttered those words. She learned our language, our history and went to college long before the woman's movement and became a teacher. She paid income tax and social security, what every immigrant should do if they want to be part of American society.

I am "Italian-American".  It is ok to be proud of my heritage.  And I have ALOT to be proud of.  My grandparents came over here on "the boat"; didn't speak English & were probably scared out of their wits.

They busted their chops & worked hard.  My Dad's folks learned English.  My Mom's mother never spoke it, but did understand it.  And golly-gee, she didn't expect the rest of the U.S. to speak Italian.  Awful lady that she was, she made her kids learn English.  And they all grew up to be responsible, hard-working folks who made a GREAT life for themselves & their families.  And they did it by respecting their new country, playing by the rules, taking advantage of what the country had to offer and giving back to their country by voting, volunteering and contributing to their communities and churches.

Being proud of your heritage is a great thing, being interested in others' heritage and customs is a good thing and alot of fun, acknowledging our differences is fine.  However, catering to folks because they are different doesn't help them and it certainly doesn't help our country.

Uh-oh, I guess I should stop ranting!

The other day I was in Lowes where they have the signs in english and spanish. Being of Irish descent,
I asked if they could make the signs in gaelic, they just looked at me like I was crazy. I really feel oppressed and discriminated against. Where's my reparations check?

MJohn

You know I have a somewhat diverse background
Irish, Welsh, Comanche, Cherokee, and Choctaw.
I am very interested in my heritage BUT.......................
It's totally rediculous for me to expect others to be.
As long as they aren't delibertly trying to be offensive, so be it!
I do have people in my family that still speak in their native tounge
but not in public. None of up expect special
"accomidations", nor do I or anyone in my family
get special "perks" or ask for special government helps.
I DO AGREE WITH THIS GUY! BIG TIME!
To many of our forfathers died so WE could have our
freedoms to vote, express our opinions, and believe as we choose!
God does not force Himself on anyone neither do I!
I don't agree that all religions are the same, nor do I
believe I know it all. Everyone has the right to believe
whatever they choose BUT QUIT TRYING TO FORCE THE
REST OF US TO APPROVE OF YOUR BELEIFS BECAUSE WE DONT!
That does'nt make me "intolerant" you have the right to be wrong!
As I said nothing is being forced on you so QUIT
trying to force what you  believe on the rest of us!
Out political systems are flawed our society inperfect!
But it's obviously much better than these new
imigrants homelands, or guess what? They wouldn't be coming here!
If you don't like the way we do things, GO BACK!
If you work here pay taxes! If you want benifits get a JOB that has them!

Pam, I agree that you should be proud of your heritage.  I have one of those too.   But I would never say I was a German-American....

I am an American with a German heritage.   American should be first.
