I am making plans for a trip to Mt Washington, NH next summer. I have made some reservation at the Glen Ellis Campground. Just finding out they will not take pets. Has anyone got a CG they would like to recommend ?

It was about 14 yrs ago and we were tent campers then but we liked this CP. http://www.crawfordnotchcamping.com/campground.htm  We went in the fall, had our dog and there were maybe 4 other campers. Oh yea, it rained about 5 out of the 7 days we were there.

Try Green Meadows. It's right in the same area. I'm not sure about dogs. I may have heard some while we were there. If your interested, I'm familar with the sites and the last I checked they were updating the electric. I didn't go there this season. They can book up fast, it's a small wooded campground near Storyland.

If you don't require hook ups, I'd stay at Dolly Copp CG, a couple of miles North of the Mt Washington Auto Road on Rte 16.

As we almost always dry camp, I haven't stayed in any of the area campgrounds that offer hookups. But we drive by most of them on our way hiking, camping, kayaking and XC skiing! Seems we spend every weekend either in the area or going through the area!

Crawford Notch Campgrounds are fairly close to the road, and I would think have a lot of traffic noise.

A group of us camped at Pine Haven CG last year and really enjoyed it there.  I forget the address, but if you do a search you will find it.  It is south west of the tourist area.

Stayed at Paugus Bay last month near Lake Wini. Very nice wooded campground but not in the mountains. Small dock and beach, lots of seasonals but friendly and very relaxing. Owners were great.

Area was nice, lake was beautiful. Touristy areas were a little run down but still fun and serviceable. About 45min to an hour from Mountain.

Green Meadow is a small family run campground. They have wooded level sites,  clean restrooms and a pool with a playground nearby. It limited to its amenities, they don't have a rec hall or a well stocked store. But in my opinion I would choose it over Glen Ellis. But Glen Ellis is much bigger and it's on the river if you like that, I wasn't crazy about how the sites were laid out but that's just my opinion.
They are updating their electric in some areas of the campground. Sites in the "A" loop my have more hookups availble for TT or bigger  campers. The "B" loop sites may be a liitle more closer together but high amperage may be limited. The "C" loop has more tent site but there are a couple of electric sites. They have an open area where I believe they may have updated with electric. The campground is located beside Storyland but sometimes you wood never know it, besides the families camping there for it and the fact it can fill up. Check the web site //www.ucampnh/greenmeadow.
Another good one as suggested by tlhdoc is Pine Haven located in Wentworth, NH more off the beaten path. Family run campground with wooded sites.
Let me know if I can give you more information.

Hargus,

You done me fine.. I have made reservations at Green Meadow CG. Talked to nice old man there. He is sending additional info on the area. What I like about this location is that North Conway is not far away and Mt Washington is a skip away. The gentleman was stating that we may what to come this month.

Yes the campground is in a good location. I'm a big fan of family run campgrounds that have been around a long time. The gentleman you spoke to might have been the Dad that retired. He's correct about going up there around this time of year, that location is foliage central. Was he able to give you a site number yet?

whitestar505

No site number yet. I think he may provide it with the mail he is sending me about the area. Thanks
