Gustav has pounded the crap out of us for 14 hrs and we have been out of power since Monday morning (8/31/08) around 7 am and they are telling us it will still be 14 to 21 days before we get power back, I waited 4 hrs in 91 deg heat for 10 gal of gas, very few stores are open and their is a 4 hr wait to get in the ones that are open for no milk no eggs no bread or anything that spoils with out refrigeration. The only plus for us right now is our POPUP (besides our health) we have hot showers we are some of the very few that freeze at night when we sleep, we can take a brake from the clean up and sit down in the cool A/C, we are able to cook hot meals, all from our POPUP. I am truly and deeply in love with our POPUP, I love my POPUP like a small child loves their mother. Now that I think about it I will now start calling our POPUP "MOM"

I don't know when I will be able to get back on-line to check out this fourm but I want to thank all of you for this fourm, I just got a 20 min vacation from everything thats going on down here.

CajunCamper how you doing?

Wow, glad the pUP came in handy!  Sorry to hear of all the mess that you have down there.

I often think that if the big one hits, the pup will be nice to have for things like that.  One of the reasons I would love to get a generator.  Now if I could only find the $$.

Take care and GOOD LUCK!

We got lucky and got a 5500 watt gen the day before the storm. We paid $776 and knowing what I know know I would have paid anything for it. It is worth the money, when your family is in crisis.

I'm in Covington and I was right there with you. Didn't it seem the bad weather lingered a lot longer with this one than others in the past? The wind blew so hard on Tuesday that I didn't feel safe putting up the PUP until wednesday night. At least then we were able to sleep in the pop up have some air. My wife even ran the satellite cable out to the camper and the kids could watch TV. Thank god for the camper. Fortunately for us, we got power last night. Hope you are next. Keep safe.

Thinking of All of you that experienced the bad part of the storm. We have been through all of it before. Our hybrid trailer was our "back up" plan this time for sleeping & eating. We have gas hot water heater in the house so Hot showers are available. When all the New Hype is over is when the hard part of begins - putting your lives back together again. Our thoughts & prayers are with all of you.

We in MD didn't get hit by Gustuv, but got a smidget of rain from Fay, and are now 'enjoying' Hanna.  (I look out my window and see my brown grass has turned green again overnight).  Got the PUP on high ground, closed up but stocked and ready should the winds (haven't hit yet) take down the power lines.
