Welcome to Put, sorry to hear about your boo-boo on your new pup. If you have no damage inside, and the wound is dry and smoothed out with sealant, you could cover the sealant with a piece of 4" or 6" wide, white Eterna-Bond tape.Make sure the sealant is smooth and flush with the surface of the roof so that the tape will lay flat. The tape will not adhear to the silicone but it will grab the skin of the roof which has had no contact with the silicone. This tape repair should last you many years, and should not be very noticeable. I'm sure others will offer advice, good luck and again welcome to Put. :usflag:

I had the same type of thing happen to my Rockwood. (a small board fell from the rafters of the garage, creating two neat little punctures).  I carefully cleaned around the area with automotive prep wipe to remove all the wax I had applied.  Carefully and gently lift up the aluminum skin with a fine screwdriver or awl and squirt in 3M 5200 Marine Sealant to fill the void.  Then carefully bend the aluminum skin down flush on the exterior. Make a bead or "puddle" of the Marine sealant to complete the job, depending upon the size and shape of the hole.  This takes over a week to dry in warm weather. When done the repair is hardly noticible.  Since the sealant is rated for marine use under the waterline, you will have no worries with the repair's strength.

3M 5200 is available at Wal Mart in season, also at Gander Mountain, Overton's, West Marine, and Bass Pro Shops.  A 3 ounce squeeze tube will cost you less than $10.00. http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=79832&pdesc=3M_Marine_Adhesive/Sealant_5200_3_oz_tube&str=3m&merchID=1008&r=view

Welcome!

Eternabond tape is fantastic.

If you don't want the "tape-over-a-hole" look, they make self leveling roof caulk in white and in tan.  You could go right over your existing silicone patch with a layer of that self leveling caulk as it thins and levels, it should look pretty decent.

This would be my suggestion as well.

The 3M 5200 is extremely strong, nothing adheres better and the color will match well.

It will be important to clean the surface thoroughly with acetone to get all of the silicone off.

Thank you all for your responses. My garage door opener hit roof as it was closing. Will try to remove old sealant, and fill with marine sealant, also try to get edges up flush with roofline.Have heard about Eternabond Tape also, but was afraid it would show to much..Again,thank you all for your suggestions and support......Jim

If you use the 3M 5200, it cleans up with mineral spirits. Once you apply the sealant, you can put some mineral spirits on your finger and smooth it out.

It takes about a week to cure to a usable state and about 3 months to cure to a bullet-proof state. You can wash it after about 2-weeks.
