Just for the record what was it you didn't like? I've only seen their web site and we all know they can make everything look perfect on those..;;;;;; We really are not sure we will be doing the Thanksgiving thing either depends on if our Kids from AZ are going to be in town.  So for now we are just keeping it open and playing the let's see game.

without camping there, I can't give a full opinion, I liked they had big grassy areas like canyon rv but they are all hills which makes it very difficult for me to go to other campsites and it could make it hard to see the kids. I now they'd like rolling down them.

but since at this point I can't say I would be able to go it doesn't really matter what I think...

Quote from: cjpoppinOk here's the deal I did a map quest on the miles to Canyon RV=79 miles
San Dimas=66.18 the price's are going to be about the same.... San Dimas does have a $3 dollar per day for pets and a $3 dollar charge for over two per site as I read it. If we get over 10 families going the price per day goes down.  The PLACE LOOKS VERY NICE and we have never been there. I do not know the break down on the driving  for everyone else I do know Canyon RV is very close for Dee and Lori .
This camp-out will be different because most of us want to go home for Thanksgiving proper then come back to the RV park for the rest of the weekend. However giving this a second thought those of us that want to go home for Thanksgiving Day could just come in on Friday then it really doesn't matter where we go.  Sooooooooooo fight it out SCCampers and we'll go where the majority want to go.

Holidays they REQUIRE 3 nite MIN. Stay

And this was exactly the problem I encountered when I tried to accommodate the majority's wishes as to a particular cg when I tried to plan a Thanksgiving rally last year. The cg required a three-night minimum which meant arriving and/or paying for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. But people who were originally interested in camping over Thanksgiving either didn't want to arrive on Thursday--Thanksgiving Day--or pay for it if they weren't arriving until Friday.

Dee is right; San Dimas requires a three-night minimum for the Thanksgiving holiday, which means that if we selected San Dimas, you would have to reserve and pay for Thursday night even if you can't pull in until Friday. This makes me somewhat ambivalent about going to San Dimas because I do not want to find myself in the same situation as last year where I try to plan a rally and accommodate where everyone else wants to go, only to have everyone eventually pull out due to family commitments, and the rally ends up collapsing.

Canyon RV's Web site does not indicate any three-night requirement for holiday weekends, which makes me think that it might be a better choice in case people initially commit but then end up canceling due to family obligations. You see, the whole point of my wanting to camp over Thanksgiving is to avoid family obligations. I was pretty disappointed about the rally falling through last year, and I think that's why I've been a bit quiet about trying to plan again it this year. That was the point of the poll--to gauge actual interest. I really don't want to get my hopes up for camping and have it be a no-go again.

I am home with a sick child today, so I will try to call Canyon RV later this afternoon after we get back from the doctor's to confirm that they do not require three nights for camping over Thanksgiving. (Dee, if you want to call and then text me, that is fine too.) Dee or I will let you know what we find out and then we can try to make some definite plans about this rally.

another note on that....The rates at Canyon RV are not established by the "min of 10 sites" rule either

Gracy

If Canyon RV doesn't make us pay for Thursday then I'm totally fine with planning for that location.  BUT if we did happen to go with San Dimas... for us its close enough that we would either just leave for family dinner OR have our family come there and have dinner with us.  So really either campground is fine with us.  But if I'm asked to give my opinion then I'm going to give it......... so bottom line is we would be happy with either campground.

I really do hope this works out... I've always thought it would be really nice to camp over the Thanksgiving holiday :)

Okay, here's the deal:

San Dimas only has 15 sites left in the whole park, while Canyon has 10 scattered throughout the cg. Because of its requirement of a three-night minimum, I'm going to pass on San Dimas this time around (maybe someone would like to plan a rally there another time, hint hint) and go with Canyon.

This will be a SELF-SERVICE RALLY. I have reserved sites 47 and 48 for Dee and me for Wednesday through Sunday and have placed a 3-day hold on the following available sites: 41, 52, 62, 66, 69, and 79. These sites will become available to the public on Saturday, 4/11, so if you want to go camping over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, call Canyon RV at 714) 637-0210 and make your reservation. You can arrive whenever and leave whenever since there is no 3-night minimum. Rates are $45/night. I spoke with Sean who was extremely nice and accommodating.

Here's a link to the cg map so that you can see where the sites are located:

If you reserve a site, post the number and when you're arriving and leaving, and I'll start a rally list.
