Those plain foam coolers do not hold up well.  I used for a couple of times before it starting leaking ice melt all over the place.

Did it crack?  I had many for years and years with no issue.  Fish, live crabs, beer, etc.

Was it condensation or just sprung a leak?

yes it cracked. Maybe yours is thicker than mine was.

I do a lot of surf fishing at the beach and we use one of the 96 quart marine(white) dock 5 day coolers.   In the heat of the summer in the back of an open pick up, we fill it on friday with drinks and bait.  By sunday evening there is still a third or so of the ice left.  And that is in and out all day and in the heat of the sun.  I think the white color might have a good bit to do with it also.  Hope this helps.

We do have one of the Coleman Ultimate Extreme coolers and we like it a lot.  It does hold ice for many days.  We freeze a gallon of water for block ice and have our meat and such frozen as well.  Doing this does extends the effectiveness of the cooler.
We also have an Igloo with wheels and use it for drinks and things.
There is only the two of us but some times when we go for an extended stay somewhere, we have 3 chests.  One for meats, one for other cold things that we don't want contaminated with meat juices and one for beverages.
