Camping in Georgia

We are heading towards the Atlanta, GA area for kids spring break. I'll be pulling the camper out of hibernation this week. Winter feels like its lasted for ever this year  :yikes:

We love American history any must see places in that area?

Any recommendations on good state parks in the area.

It sure feels good to be planning a camping trip - even if it only stays in the 50's thats gonna feel real warm

Oh, I think it'll be a little warmer than that (it was in the seventies today).  And there are many, many wonderful parks in my lovely state!  Here are a handful of my favorites:

Amicalola Falls S.P.-highly recommend
Black Rock Mountain S.P.
Cloudland Canyon S.P.-highly recommend
Dahlonega Gold Museum (historic site)
Etowah Indian Mounds (historic site)
Stone Mountain Park-very highly recommend
Tallulah Gorge S.P.
Unicoi S.P.
Vogel S.P.

All the above are in the north Georgia mountains, except Stone Mountain Park which is in the metro-Atlanta area.  But Stone Mountain is AMAZING, you really should see it.

Also, just a few hours north in TN and NC is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park-highly recommend.  Into white water rafting or kayaking?  I recommend the Nantahala River (NC) or the Ocoee River (TN).

if you're coming through Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium is awesome. And the world of Coke is next door. 2 must see's.

In Atlanta, Stone Mountain is a great place to camp fro a couple days. They I would head to N GA as others have said. Vogal, Cloudland Canyon, and not far off I-75 is Fort Mountain State Park (Vogel is our favorite)

Georgia was Awesome! It felt like summer  :-() What a beautiful state and we only got to see such a small portion of it. We'll be back.

Ended up staying at the Red Top Mountain state park. Took in civil war sites in Kennesee, got to check out the General at the locomotive museum, CNN center, Coca Cola, MLK, Carter center, Hawks game etc.

Whats with the amount of police cars and speed checks - I thought Wisconsin was bad, but you guys have them beat hands down  :p

Budget cuts mean no raises unless they can raise more money is my guess. Friend of mine got a ticket for window tint  being too dark.............at 1:30 in the morning.

FDR FD Roosevelt SP in located at Pine Mt., GA, just SW of Atlanta. It is a short distance from FDR's Little White House; well worth visiting. We were there 2 yrs. ago in spring.

One disappointing thing (unless they've changed the rules) is that GA SPs don't allow you to put your own kayak/canoe into the water.

This was at Unicoi and Vogel said the same thing.  Years and years ago I put an inflatable kayak at Stone Mt.
