Need new whiffle tree

My whiffle tree broke over the weekend when I was setting up to camp. The threaded shaft broke where one of the roll pins go. I contacted a local dealer and was told they could order it but it would be around $300. It's seem pretty high for what the part is. Does anyone know of anyplace that sells after market parts or used parts? I hate to spend $300 if I don't have to especially considering I was laid off almost three weeks ago and still out or work.

Thanks for the help.

there are a couple places that sell used/salvaged parts.  Try doing a search here, and see if you can find the addresses....

Thanks for the info. I had already called the first one, they didn't have it. The second website gave me some numbers and none of them had it. One of those places gave me a number for a Camper and Recreation in WI. (800-232-2079 in case anyone wants it) They no longer carry Coleman parts because in OCT they had a 35-50% price increase in their parts. I am looking into the possibility of having a machine shop make one up for me. All it is is a threaded shaft with three holes drilled in it. Can anyone see a danger in having that done? Should I just bite the bullet and pay the $300?

The dealer also told me to have it installed would be another $200-240.  :yikes: All it is, is four bolts, three roll pins and attaching the four cables which has a total of 8 nuts.

You know, it's funny. I just logged on to post a message saying I found the same company. They don't have the factory part since Coleman now only sells to Coleman dealers but they have a shop that makes them for them. Their price is $145 plus $14 shipping compared to $300 from Coleman. The difference as the explained it was that theirs had more thread per inch making it stronger but it takes more turns to raise it.

I am actually looking into getting one made here locally. The cost is $19 for the threaded rod and I just have to get the four holes drilled.

Thanks for the help and I will let you know how it turns out.

As long as I have been PU camping, Coleman/Fleetwood has always sold strictly to dealers.:)

I had a similar issue with the upper crank and chain.the dealer wanted 300 bucks for bearing that only costed 59 cents I used a company called miller bearing to get the new brass oil impregnated breaings they were so cheap that the guy just gave me two of them for free. well long story short I noticed that he dealing in the parts very similar to the whiffle tree and he said that he can match pretty much up any thing.  try them on the web. they are located in orlando fl.
