Hi,

Thought this would be a nice thread.

Did you buy something recently, or spend some money on an item that you think helps the economy to pick up some steam again? Personally I think that all purchases count and contribute. A new power tool, something for the PUP, a nice dinner, ...

I'll start. We recently bought a new LCD TV (old TV was still OK but is now upstairs in our bedroom. The deal on the new TV was right so we pulled the trigger). I also bought some more tools and gave a local mom and pop shop my business for an oil change and a brake job on the car.

We bought new appliances for the kitchen and ceramic tile for the floor.
Sears was having a fairly decent sale of 20% off Kenmore in Feb so we took advantage of that.
Buying hard goods like that allegedly helps the GDP, I think, I could be wrong though.  Just trying to do what we can

I am going to the Charlotte Woodworking show this weekend and will probably buy a new 10" table saw for my shop if I find a bargain. My old saw belonged to my father and is almost sixty years old and getting really tired. I have also been buying hardware and materials to remodel our kitchen. I will build all the new oak cabinets and do the trim work and hire a carpenter, younger than me, to do all the tearing out and grunt work..Hopefully I can get this done this year and "spur" the economy without having to ask Nancy and Harry for some of that stimulus money......

Boy! Have we helped!
We just finished gutting and completely redoing my kitchen, laying new flooring in dining room, hall, bathroom, and pantry. Completely redid the second bathroom, bought a new dual cavity kitchen stove, plus some new furniture. I think we have helped save at least a few jobs in the area. Thankfully, I've kept under budget so we still have our camping fun-money for this year. Yeah!!!!!!!!

We did our part and just bought a new PUP.

We just bought a 2007 pup.  We now own 2 campers.  We didn't do it in any way whatsoever to help the economy, at least not intentionally.  We did it to save money.  Sounds crazy.  Maybe it is.  It helps.  Being crazy, that is.  :eyecrazy:

I did something totally unexpected by those who know me.

I went captive.

"Captive" is the term used by contractors (a.k.a. "Prostitutes") to refer to permanent employees.

Faced with an end to my current contract, and an economy that turns bad on contractors first, and having an offer to convert in hand, I did the only sensible thing.  For the first time since 1994, I am a permanent employee.  It was also the first time I had accepted a new permanent job since 1981.

The miracle is, along with new benefits and not having to pay for COBRA, I was able to get a small *increase* in pay out of the conversion to permanent.  That is unheard of in contracting.  :-()

I, too, invested in a new-top-us PUP. We got the 2005 Niagara and got, what we believe to be, a really good price. We purchased it from a dealer who only gets PUPs at trade-ins. It might have helped that we purchased a 5er from him in the past.

OC Campers

We bought a new 32in flat screen tv for the bedroom and a new patio mat for the camper.    The auto mechanic got a chunk too.  Both vehicles needed service and repairs.:( .  Oh yeah, we also bought the new hybrid back in June.:#

Lets see, Sun. bought a new Sony Blu-Ray DVD player. Than Mon the wife driving our only veh. a 2001 Chevy Suburban. Drives off the road into a ditch and instead of hitting the breaks drives another 75Ft into a driveway culvert, taking the bumper, tire and wheel out. So we had to repair all of that, Was planning on some maintance on the truck anyway and had it in our budget but went over it by about 500.00. Next week will take the Chevy back in to finish the maintance we had originally planned on doing. (new fuel pump). Than will be paying off credit cards w/our tax returns.

I understand the principal behind jump-starting the economy, but, I am not into incurring debt, as I do not feel that utilizing credit cards/loans is the answer.  Accordingly, I've been making a serious dent in my debt and paying off as much as I can, and putting what were payments into savings.  Then, I might buy something, but not until I've saved for it.

Having eight kids, 6 of whom were girls, I can tell you from experience that you're probably going to do more for the economy than those of us buying new RVs. Good luck to you and the best to the future bride & groom.

New dining room table, delivered last week (paid xtra for delivery).  New countertop / sink / faucet going in this weekend (paying a contractor to install the countertop).  So we are purchasing new and contributing to contractors for stuff I could be doing.
