We will second the motion on going to the GWBR. This was are 8Th year and love it. Camping & bike riding, plus you always have a guaranteed place to camp on Memorial day weekend and like Brain mentioned there are wineries everywhere there (you could go just for that). This year we had Sean with us and he did great. the first day we took a small 10 mile ride to break him in and then the second day we rode to the air museum and then to star farms where Sean played in the water close to 2 hours and on the return leg we had a head wind that really kicked our butt and Sean did great, that was about 23 miles around trip. Sean placed second in his age bracket for the bike rodeo. We all enjoyed ourselves and we will be there next year that is for sure. Once you go, you will be hooked ;)

On-line Registration usually opens up in early January for that year's Rally. Please visit the Great Western Bicycle Rally website (current site is for the 2009 Rally) for more information than I can possibly post here.

The dates for the 2010 Rally are May 27th thru the 31st. So put it on your calendar now.

My 13 year old son (Cyrus) is head over heels into biking now.  Lance Armstrong is his hero.  Put us down for the event..   May have to tent camp it!!  I don't like pulling the trailer that far.

Also, we are looking to purchase a road bike for him 50" frame.  If anyone knows of someone who has grown out of a good road bike...Please let us know.

Yes, as Carol mentioned there are no dogs allowed. Since we are camping on the fairgrounds we are subject to the rules laid out by the State. Another rule they have:  No skateboards, roller blades, roller skates, etc. We asked  and the reason for most of these laws is due to past lawsuits. (Griffsdad's scooter should be okay as long as he wears a helmet.):p

Doesn't make it any easier when you want to bring the dog though. I realize this isn't an option for everyone, but there is a pet hotel in town if you want to check that out. Another option would be Wine Country RV Resort. They charge $3 per day, per dog, 3 dog maximum.

Sorry to hear that.

Hoagie

Well, unfortunately the Griffsclan informed me over the weekend that due to a scheduling conflict they will not be joining us. Too bad. You will be missed.
However, a newbie to the SCCampers group, Muddog, hopes to join us. Sure hope you guys can make it.

Shirleen -- Are you still thinking of joining us??

Anyone else? There are no assigned 'sites' at the fairgrounds so it is essential you let me know if you are going to be there. We use creative parking techniques and strategic placement of EZ-Ups to make sure we always have enough room. Never had a problem doing this in 13 years.

Muddog

We're trying to figure out what to do with our dog.  Most people we know that could watch him over the long weekend have plans to be out of town as well.

It sounds like a lot of fun, so hopefully we'll get something figured out in the next few days.

:EDIT: - OK, well that didn't take long.  Good news, we'll be able to experience the Bike Rally, bad news, we'll be staying at the Wine Country RV Resort w/dog.   We'll still be flying our new SCCampers flag though :)

As of a few minutes ago they still had a few sites left in case anyone else is facing the dog dilemma...

Hey, glad you guys are going to make it. Of course, we'd love it if you were camping along with the rest of us, but as State Law prohibits pets on the fairgrounds, you're kinda backed into a corner. Wine Country isn't that far away from the fairgrounds and Rally HQ, so I'm sure you'll still be able to join in on the activities.

Here's another option for you to look into. Camp Bow Wow. They are unlike any dog kennel or boarding facility I've ever seen. We've had Whitney stay there a few times now. She always comes home tuckered out from all the play-time. In fact, she'll be staying at the location in Anaheim while we are at GWBR.

We plan on being there. This will be our 4th. year attending. Two of us on recumbent trikes (Logo's). Several people from the VCRR (Ventura Recumbent Riders Association) will also be attending. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
