OC Campers

Quote from: miss kathy;210279i was at Lake Nacimento a couple of years ago and it was over 100- it is really hot and the campsites are hard to get into - the road is very narrow inside of the campgrounds and I don't remember much shade.
Lake San Antonio sounds like a better place

Ok,  Opinions are low on Lake Nacimiento and Lake San Antonio.  Both of these lakes have full hook-up areas. Do keep in mind that being at a lake would help us keep cool, take the easy ups down to the water and spend the day on the beach... Sounds like fun to me.

anyway.......

How does Lake Isabella KOA sound to everyone.  Yes, it's hot there... we live in California......There rates for September 09 are around 42-50 for full hookups.  I have not yet called to see about August next year or their group rates.

Anyway Opinions, please.

If we're considering Lake Isabella, Kernville is in the neighborhood, and I've always wanted to try Rivernook Campground. Of course, it gets really hot in this area in th summer, so we'd probably want to try to keep it early summer--like maybe no later than end of June.

How close is this one to Santa Cruz?  It does not seem that much further and there are still those big beautiful trees.
Any thoughts here?

My DH has property and grew up in Lake Isabella.... that KOA is a really nice campground.... I guess it use to be a dump but now they have really fixed it up.  If the group decides to book there would would I'm sure be in.  It starts getting hot there in late May.  Besides the campground and the nearby lake... there is really nothing else to do thats right there.....  EXCEPT for nearby Kernville.... thats a fun little town to explore ;)  Lots of antique stores and a great park for the kids to play in.  Its a 15 minute drive from the KOA to Kernville.

Just want to throw out my two cents worth!

I know that Gracy and her honey love the area BUT the road going up the canyon is like driving up to Big Bear or Yosemite = Not fun! Especialy for the longer rigs in the group! It takes us over an hour to get up to Kernville and we live very close. The regular drivers that live and work up there will try to pass you at every chance. There have been numerous accidents on this road! We have witness two of them ourselfs.

It is nice up there but trailering a longer rig up the back of the mountain is white knuckle time!
I think the coast is a better idea, but that's my two cents worth.

After eating at Boudin's bakery last night we got an urge for San Fran.  Haven't been there since Kendall was 1.  Can we meet up there??  I know its far, but maybe we can cut the rally in half and harrass two CG on one rally!

SAN FRAN!!!:U

I agree 100% with Bob, We live very close to Isabella (1 hour) and it is not a roads I would tow a trailer up. It is also very hot, desert type conditions and always windy. I too have witnessed many accident's of cars going over trhe side. No gaurd rails and straight down to rocks. I personally vote for Santa Cruz area again.

JohnandLeann

I had mentioned back on post 64 about Big Basin Red Woods.  Is it on the chopping block for closures?  I did not see any feedback yet on this one.  Thought about it because it is close to Santa Cruz area.
