Quote from: oreo57;211301Everyone seem's to believe that Farwest is responsible, Do we know that for sure. I also feel that this is someting for Laura and Farwest to deal with personally and not the group.I really fill sorry for Jed and hope for a quick recovery but the legal side should be held confined to the owner of Jed and the other party involved.

Laura, Sorry for being a Butt.

I understand your position totally.  What's sad to both the owner and me is that the manager readily admitted to putting down the poison.  Dave was with me when I took pictures of him holding the can that said it contained strychnine.  When the owners lived at and managed the campground they never used this product for the exact reason that we're experiencing now.  How they choose to deal with their manager is none of my business.

But this is a good lesson for everyone, I think.  The vet said that unfortunately the cavalier use of poisons seems to be on the rise, moreso with rat poison than strychnine.  Apparently that type of poison is more incidious than what Jed got into, as it causes animals to bleed out and will stay in their system for up to a year.  The strychnine is probably out of Jed's system by now.

I'm grateful that he'll be okay, and that the owners of the campground are willing to work with me.

Dave, the blood samples have been sent to UC Davis & I'll have confirmation by Friday.  But there's really little room for doubt at this point ...

Thanks again, everyone.

Laura started this thread because so many of us were concerned about Jed. I know everyone means well, but I think we're better off if we leave the legalities alone and just let Laura continue to update us on Jed's continued progress. Thanks!

Laura, any update when you have time would be greatly appreciated....

Lori thanks, I hate feeling like a butt !!

Laura said that Jed'll be home tomorrow. :) He's up and walking but a bit unsteadily, so they're giving it one more day. Laura has had to buy rubber-backed carpet runners to lay down on his pathways so he won't be slipping and sliding all over the hardwood floors once he gets home. Poor baby--it's hard to be a dog with the wobblies!

I know Laura is very appreciative of everyone's prayers and is absolutely certain that Jed wouldn't be alive if it weren't for all the prayers he's received.

So keep those prayers coming everyone!:)

Jed's home.  :)

I can't say how good it feels to have him here.  He's able to navigate around the house, but I'm helping keep his steadiness going up and down the stairs for now by using a towel under his belly.

He acts like the lights are on but nobody's there right now -- a side effect of the phenobarbital.  Hopefully as his body adjusts to it he'll come back to me.  And hopefully he won't have to be on it forever -- all depends on a definitive diagnosis, and we're still waiting on UC Davis for that.  We'll have them either Friday or Monday at the latest.

Please keep praying for positive test results, friends.  The alternatives are more than I want to think about right now ...

Thanks so much for your support.

Hey all --

I haven't had much to post about Jed, other than he's doing well.  We had a vet appointment yesterday ($593, thank you!) for bloodwork and and chest x-rays.  All came back looking really good.  His phenobarbital levels were 36 out of 45, so we're going to drop the amount he's receiving and hope that his ataxia (dragging back feet) will disappear but still give him that "cushion" to prevent possible future seizures.  If dropping his dosage doesn't help with the ataxia then we'll probably begin to wean him off of the phenobarb altogether and pray like heck that he doesn't have any seizures.  So, this time next week I should know a bit more about long-term plans.

On the financial front, I'm up to $9300 (in round numbers) in out-of-pocket expenses.  The campground owner has been more than supportive, but the insurance company just doesn't move very quickly.  They have everything they need from me -- now it's a waiting game ... hopefully with no negotiating.  There's no wiggle-room in my book.  Please keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for your concern.  Jed and I both appreciate it.  :)

Thanks for the update Laura........

Glad to hear that Jed has had no more seizures.

We'll keep him in our prayers......that list has gotten longer lately...:(

Laura thank you so much for the update on Jed I have been so worried about him and you......Believe me I know how stressful this is ....Please know you both are still in our prayers and we also say a prayer that the Ins.Co. for the CG does keep their word to you and this doesn't turn out to be a hassle.  You know they could be dealing with a child and than it sure would be more than the Vet Bills.......Give Jed a big hug from us and we hope to see you both very soon at a SCCamper Rally....
