I'm a den leader for the Tiger Cubs at the local school and tonite is a den meeting, we are going on a short hike to collect leaves for making leaf rubbings as one of the kid's achievements. The boys are 6-7 years old and parents will also be along, but I'm having a tough time coming up with ideas to make it fun for both parents and the kids. I really dont want to just walk through the woods and be boring, I was thinking I would find a specific leaf, then have the kids find a match, but does anyone have any good ideas for some fun interaction with the parents and kids? Thanks-Dan

How about also looking for animal tracks in the soil while on your hike. We even picked up some fast drying plaster of paris and made a mold out of the tracks and then identified them.

You might think about some electives.

Tiger Cub Electives:

22. With your family or with your den, have a picnic -- indoors or outdoors.

30.   Plant a seed, pit, or greens from something you have eaten.
31.   Learn about an animal.

33.  With your den or family, play Cleanup Treasure Hunt.

35. Play a game outdoors with your family or den.

Scavenger Hunt:  make a short list of things to be collected off the ground:  small stone, feather, pinecone, seed, pine needle, dandelion, small twig, bird sighted, squirrel sighted, etc.
