If you get there and it's blowing hard, ask if you can trade one night for Sycamore Cove...... it's the same CG but about 1 mile down the road. The wind doesn't blow nearly as hard there as on the beach at Thornhill Broome..

As I always say......"There is a reason why that big sand dune is across the road from the CG".;)

Well looks like the weather gods are not with us on this camp-out so we'll be leaving very early  Thursday morning......Right now we have such high winds sure don't want to drive even if the weather was good at Mugu....on Wed.  So we'll get ready to go have everything hooked up and head out Thursday......UNLESS..................??

Wise decision. The Sea buoy off of the point is reading wind gusts of 43kts. When the wind hits the land in the CG area, it is further compressed by the Point and by the up-sloping of the beach. I'll bet that they are having wind gusts over 60mph on the beach (at the CG) today. It should subside later tomorrow and it may be dead calm on Thursday (we hope). It will be chilly at night..........:frosty:

The problem is that a high pressure system, off-shore, is pushing a low pressure system inland and the air is getting squeezed between the 2 systems. If the low moves away quickly (which it should), we'll be good to go.:-()

I want to be at MUGU  It's so pretty here today......Is the wind still blowing at MUGU?  do you know Wayne?

It's fairly calm there right now (although, it's raining). They had wind gusts of 60mph yesterday afternoon. As the day heats up today, the wind is supposed to increase. It will die with the final passage of the cold-front, later today.

Tomorrow through Sunday is supposed to be beautiful. Monday may be iffy.....we'll have to see how it goes.....:D

Camping at Mugu is all about timing and flexibility. A lot of people will never go back to Mugu because of the wind there (that's why it is not crowded). Avoiding those conditions is key and we have been very happy camping there. We just except the fact that sometimes, we have to cancel. I'd rather stay home and lose my reservation $ than go there when it is windy, be miserable and possibly incur damage to our rig....

Thanks for the up-date.......Yes, we do understand WIND  living up here..........I just have cabin fever( plan on leaving very early on Thur for Mugu ) we are leaving on Sunday to go home this time Jim has a DR. appt and I have a meeting on Monday......

I did a weather search for Point Mugu State Park,Ca. on two different sites and came up with at both sites that by 3A.M. the wind in that area will be MUCH LESS on Thur and Fri and Sat will be even better doesn't show any wind.  So for now we still plan on leaving here early in the morning.....Let hope the weather gods will be with us.....Other wise you'll see us parked in front of your place Brad when you get home.....Hahaaaaa

I have been watching the buoy reports and the CG is getting slammed with wind gusts over 65MPH........Supposed to die off after Sunset.

We are home sure had a great time and the weather was nice except for Sunday night the wind came up....We left earlier than we would have to get home had heard on the radio that the pass was not advised for cars pulling trailers.....we pulled off at Devore and there was a Hwy patrol there on the side of road ask him about the Pass and he said we shouldn't have any problem just keep it slow.....Only took us 4 hours to get home.....Hahaaaa
Now we are looking forward to Indian Cove.....I'll post pictures later....
Good to see Wayne and Carolyn and Brad and Mary and met some friends of Wayne's ( Jim and Betty )they shared pot luck with us and are excited about joining the Sccampers....

Recumbentman

We too had a great time! We went hiking in sycamore canyon on Saturday and enjoyed some wonderful friendship...and Saturday Potluck dinner was great! But, we were blown out of there on Sunday morning...visions of our time at Canyon RV and a dry lake bed in the Lucerne Valley...both not fun experiences,  and no sleep!  We were home by 9AM! We are pooped out today!  We are looking forward to Indian Cove and hopefully wonderful weather!
