Hello,

My name is Kevin and this is my first time posting on this site.  We have an older 97 Palomino in very good condition.  We have had it for 2 years now and have had a lot of fun in it.  I have gotten a lot of ideas for modifications from here and other places.  I can't wait to go camping this year.

WELCOME TO PUT!!!  You will love your PUP!

Where are you located??

Thank you,

I am from the Chicago area.  Me and my family are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon this summer.  We do love our pop up.  We have been considering upgrading to one with a few more options though.  I have looked at a few Colemans.  They are very well built and nice.

Welcome to PUT!  I've found this website to be extremely helpful (especially the Fix-It section ;) )  I hope you find it as helpful!  Looking forward to hearing about your Grand Canyon camping adventure in a few months...

Well I hate to say it but I may have spoken too soon on that one.  You see, my parents want to come along with us and they are limited on funds, and plus it will be the first time my mom has camped in a pop up.  So our trip may be cancelled for this year.  It would be quite a hike but we could make it from Illinois to Virginia in a good day's drive.  Does anyone have any suggestions for campgrounds and places to see near Virginia Beach?  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  We are still hoping for the Grand Canyon but I fear it may be a little much to drag my parents to the desert.

If you do plan on going to the Grand Canyon do in the late spring or fall. The temps are much more manageable at least for your parents. In the summer, temps in various parts of AZ will be well over 100 to 110. Depending on which direction you will be coming from parts of New Mexico and southwestern CO can get pretty hot also.

After giving you the bad news, the Grand Canyon is a must see. What is nice for you who are driving, once you are in the park and set up, a free shuttle takes you to all vistas and stores, restaurants, the train and lodges. So no more driving in the park if you don't want to. There are so many things to do within the park and there are activities, like the Jr. Rangers for kids and just plain sight seeing and exhibits.

As far as camping there are 3 campgrounds. Mather and Desert Vista which have no hookups. Trailer Village is located in the park and has full hookups. We stayed there in August so we could use our A/C, which we did use a couple times in the heat of the day. The campground has restrooms but no showers, you have to go to Mather to use the showers.

It sounds like the Grand Canyon is out for this year for you but do try to make it sometime. We have driven coast to coast and into Canada several times, so if you need some help or tips I will be more than happy to help you with some suggestions.

Enjoy your PUP and your planning. Take care.
