How does this affect you?  Do you feel added stress/anxiety when they announce these alerts?   I feel like unless they can tell me of a more specific threat or time period then I ve just to go on and live my life.  Will I be more cautious...most likely...but I won t be stopping what I need to do to continue on with my life.  My children are living in a world I fortunately didn t experience when I was a kid.  I keep any reports or news of these warnings away from them.

CamperrooI m more concerned about my commute home in the current snowstorm than about an orange alert.  In the last 17 months, about 3500 Americans have been killed by terrorists.  In the same time period, 566,500 were killed by heart disease.

 Which is more dangerous?

Austin (over 50,000 killed in auto accidents)

CamperrooSorry Lee, but of those over 1/2 million people dying of heart disease 95 % don t even know they have it, so it s just like being hit by stray bullet, drunk driver, or an airplane, just a lot better chance.
Better most of us should worry about drunk drivers and icey sidewalks. As 99.9999% of us have a better chance of being somewhere there s one of those and getting killed than a terrrorist target.
The terrrorists want to create fear in a population, if you spend time worrying about it or being afraid; THEY WIN.

CamperrooIn todays world anything can happen.  We need to use CAUTION, BE DON T BE AFRAID.  My brother-in-law had just flew out of Dullas Airport 1 hour before the hijacked planes flew. ( Thank God he is still with us today).  He worked at the Pentagon ( Left his job after this because of stress)  This hit to close to home for all of us and more.  We are just normal people living everyday lives.  We no longer live in a world without fear.  Terrorism isn t to be taken lightly.  At least now the goverment is letting us in on part of whats going on.

 Austin,

I sure hope your not comparing heart disease deaths to those deaths caused by terrorists....I hope to God I m reading your post all wrong!  People with heart disease have a choice to take care of themselves if that s what your implying, someone sitting in a tower and a plane crashes into the side of it didnt have that choice!

Dead is dead.  Nearly as many die from cancer.  I m sure most of those had no choice in the matter.  In 17 months, nearly four million Americans have died from all causes.  Despite that, the vast majority of us are still alive!  Three thousand of those dead were killed by terrorists.  Don t worry so much about things that may be spectacular, but almost certanly won t get you.  Spend the time and energy on the things that can get you.  That doesn t mean fly in the face of danger, but please tell me what tangible thing can any of us do about terrorism?  Nothing but worry.  No thanks.  Worry raises blood pressure, an indicator for heart disease...

CamperrooI have more important things to worry about then wether terrorists might (slim chance) target my area, and I won t let " fear"  rule my life and make my choices for me.

" So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."  F.D.R.

So point blank I m on the advance in fear of nothing.

Camperroosee now, i think that is the basic point to be made. Of WHAT are people afraid of????????? of dying? all i got to say is, if that is what they are afraid of, they have lots bigger problems than that!!!!!!! for me, i know where i`m going, i know WHO i`m going to be with, me, i got NO problem dying.no fear of it, anyway. not in any big HURRY, mind you........[;)]

CamperrooI work in a 30 story hotel.....since hotels have been mentioned as a possible target, we have gone on " high alert"  or something like that.  It s difficult, at best, to secure a convention hotel!  The big thing they warn us is to be watchful of persons who look out of place.  It s a changing world we live in---that s reality.  I choose to NOT live in fear, but rather to embrace life and go from there.
