I ve seen references on the forum boards that PUT was too skinny and had way too many ads. Well I just counted the number of ad pages in Trailer Life, Camping Life, and PUT and here s what I got -
ad pages / total pages = percentage ads
 TL 64.25 / 104 =  61.7% ads    38.3% content
 CL 38.5 / 76   =   50%  ads      50%  content
 PUT 10.5 / 32  =  32%  ads      68% content
PUT offers more content and fewer ads percentage wise. I like the magazine and want to see it continue but I think it s too thin, so I m going to write an article for them and help fatten it up.

 PopupperInteresting figures Popupper.
I do agree with you on the idea of writing an article.
The bashing of PUT on other boards has also motiviated me to write an article for PUT, and so what if my only compensation is a Tee Shirt.
I feel I have recieved a lot of valuable information from PUT, and only want to pass on some of what I have learnt for free, to others.

PopupperWhy do you people let this bother you so much? It s just words on a message board, and like it or not, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and the right to voice them!

 PopupperPopupper,
The industry standard is 60% ads / 40% information. The ad ratio conrolls how many pages we can afford to print.  We have been trying to keep the topic of everything including the ads to pop up camping. I ve turned away advertisers who wanted to place ads for non-pop up related items.  This may change soon.

I suspect you would get complaints about anything you do.  Even so, here are some things I would have done long ago:

 * Use a slightly lower grade of paper.  Of course, some would complain that the magazine was too thin (even thought it had as many pages).  Another option would be printing some of the pages on significantly cheaper stock (mixed stock), but I suspect that the setup costs might outweigh the benefit unless you were printing hundreds of thousands of magazines (or more).

 * Up the ratio of ads to content.  Even though the total pages of content would not go down, some would complain that there were more ads.  OTOH, the magazine would appear thicker (assuming you used the same stock).

 * Revise the definition of pop-up related.  Off my head, I can t remember if you have ads for tow vehicles.  To me, that is pop-up related.

 Thanks for a great mag.

Popupper[:)]  I de be happy to submit some articles...but think they would be better suited for a magazine that s a cross of Penthouse Forum, and Mad Magazine.  [;)]

AustinBostonI am not a subscriber to the magazine, I only received one copy courtesy of Michigancamper[fl] (I hope I remember his nick properly), and it was a good magazine.

Considering that we have a population who has PU plus Hybrids, maybe opening up the magazine to Hybrid related stuff (and ads), ands as AB stated, tow vehicles  would  help increase the content. Looks like most everyone is (I didn t say everyone, don t shoot me)  interested in  a Hybrid, so why not include them. Also camping tool evaluation pages would be helpful (We have a forum for it after all).

Just throwing in my 0.000002 cents worth of ideas ....

I have no problem with people expressing their opinions on this board or any other board as long as there is some basis for a person s opinion.

I do have a problem with people stating an opinion when it is based strictly on hearsay.

I have read the threads on the other boards and I find it interesting that one who so freely comments on the magazine has not even read an issue.

Others who have subscribed to the magazine have made their opinions on the subject and I can respect those.
