I remember reading somewhere that small dogs are the most noisy variety, is that correct ?

Small dogs are definately the noisiest (well, not counting some herding breeds!), but it s an individual thing and some are actually pretty quiet.  Before I fostered my Chi and ended up keeping her I hated the breed.  I always thought of them as mean, shivering, noisy things.  Owning one completely changed my mind.

Good luck, and keep us updated!

SurfcalMost dog breeds are much better when you own them yourself.  I have always seen how others react to German Sheppards.  They are great dogs and very loyal to the family who owns them.  When I was growing up, I had two German Sheppards.  One was only friendly to the family and would protect " her family"  with all of her being.  The other German Sheppard was as gentle a dog as they come.  I believe (because I knew the dogs  parents) that their personalities had more to do with the type of dogs their parents were than the breed itself.  Because the DW talked me into it, we have a Golden Retriever.  Actually, she is my second Golden.  They are absolutely the best dogs in everyway in my opinion.  The first Golden Retriever we had was a wedding present that we gave to each other.  She has since passed away, but was a smart and loving dog.  Our current Golden (Miss Molly Puddleduck) is probably not quite as smart, but a sweet and gentle dog.  For me, give me a big dog anyday over a smaller dog.  It s just my preference as I like laid-back dogs much better.  The Goldens are also great with children and we have never had any problems what-so-ever with the Golden Retrievers snapping, biting or even growling at the kids.   I just wish the kids would realize that Miss Molly isn t a big fan of playing a horse.

Miss-TeriI also think  ours will be shivery and a noisy dog, but The one we want to adopt looks sooooo cute, I am sure I will forget about that stuff in no time.

This thread turned into a completely different thread ..... Moderators are going to ban me pretty soon :)

SurfcalHey, I made a top ten list, very cool!

Tracy, I put my name under my posts because I found that people thought I was a guy as well.  What is really funny is on the phone I really sound like a guy and sometimes that isn t too bad[;)]

Part of this thread reminds me of that riddle about a boy and his father getting into a car crash and being sent to different hospitals. The doctor who was to treat the boy yelled out I can t treat this boy he s my son!  It s amazing how many poeple would never guess that the doctor was the boys mother...I was taught long ago never to assume cuz it just makes an ass out of u and me![:D]

SurfcalGetting back to the subject-humane societies-
I had a chance to work(community service-don t ask) at the local humane society for two months(weekends). I got to know all the pets(dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, etc.) What a wonderful organization. Most, however, are funded locally, or take donations. They are taking donations of food, litter, laundry detergent, aluminum cans, etc, for their needs. My assignment was cleaning cages and pens, exercising animals, and general maintenance such as lawn mowing and repairs. The local chapter is having problems with the local city council(3 directors in 1 year) so fund raising is very difficult.
So, please, if you can, support your local Humane Society, in any way you can.[8D]

birolMy parents purchaed a chihuahua for my sister when we were growing up on a peditricians recomendation.  They tend to bond very strongly with one member of the family and will tolerate others.  The whole point of the exercise was to get her a pet and not a family pet.  All in all I would have to say he worked out pretty well.  I have always said that pound for pound they are the most viscous dog in the world, it they were the size of dobberman pincher they would rule the world.  LOL.[:D]

Sorry tlhdoc.. But if you want to know the reason you name gets confused I will let you know.. Tabbo area to get in to I know, Please do not take this statement as sexist.. But I would have to say it has to do with the last part of your name... The " doc"  I think at a sub-conscious level, people will always place a " doc (or doctor) with a male.. Same thing with a nurse it is always going to be looked upon as a female.. I would put $$ on it that even if people don t place your name with the medical field, the name just kinda gives off that aura...  [:@] Now don t start flaming me..

FFEMT I would not flame anyone for their opinion.  The funny thing is D.O.C. are the initials of where I work.  I never thought of them as Doctor until others pointed that out.

 fiveonefishing,

I do have my name in my signature, but it could be male or female.  So I am stuck.   I also have people think that I am male on the phone or at a drive in window ordering speaker.  11 YO DS gets very upset when that happens.[:D]

 SurfcalWOW!

What a read!  We went all over the place on this one folks!

Posting stats, gender roles and assumptions, Dog adoption, the crazy names those NNCers give their rallies...

Got to admit to doing a little lurking on those West Coast forums, that rabble rousing makes for very entertaining reading.

Now, that s why they call this the Campfire.  I felt like I was wandering around a friendly dinner party where everyone was part of three conversations at once.

 So, how  bout them Giants?

Hey Jim---you feel free to wander around the NNC forum any time you want.  Too bad you can t experience the wafting odors as you lurk.  Please note the early morning aroma of freshly perked coffee mixed with Mike s choriso.  In the afternoon its a variety of cheeses to go with the wines that were sampled at the local wineries, and in the evening---what s that smell???  Oh, that s the ceremonial NNC Rally Candle---for a moment I thought it might have been some of that " Whackie Tobackie."   Nope, not a single Zig Zag paper in the whole group...it just seems that there should be.  Must be the salt air does something to brain cells.

got woody? These rescue people are great , I got two more e-mails from them. There is a new dog coming and they think it is a perfect match for us, we will see. And one failed adaption, but theat dog is too clingy they say, it can not be left alone at home is what they said. Not even for shopping ??????? Any opinions ?

Gamecock Camper

got woody?Hey Got woody.... How about those Gamecocks.  They beat the Tenessee Volunteers here in Columbia last night.  It was an awsome game.  So what if the team is only 11 wins and 11 losses?

birolI got a pup at a place called ARF -- the animal rescue fund -- maybe that s just a Southern Ohio thing.
Sorry I wasn t specific the first time around -- this was in response to birol (I think that s the name) who said (s)he couldn t find a pup at the shelter.
(I m worried about being politically incorrect and ascribing to someone the wrong gender!  Maybe on line we should just all be " its" !!)  Just joking, of course!
